Do you think America is Safe?

I'm not sure anymore if it is. My friend's mom was recently shot and killed, and one of my best friends survived a shooting. I have my own biases, but I'd like to hear many other diverse beliefs.

Americans, do you feel safe? Would you feel safer in a different state, different city, or different country?

Everyone else, would you feel safe living in America?

I'm sick of hearing about guns and shootings, you probably are too, but I'm scared.

Update:

Concerning the size of towns/cities:

I didn't want to mention this because I don't want to sound like I'm hounding for pity, but I actually live in Newtown, CT. I'm not pretending either, that's not something to lie about.

So the idea that small towns are safer isn't necessarily true. Tragedies can happen anywhere, even in your hometown.

I'd feel safer living in a small town. The violence is bad in the big, stinking cities and will only get worse as Obama's economy continues to deteriorate.

    Sorry for your recent losses.

When I'm in my hometown, absolutely. Weirdly, my county has one of the highest concentrations of legally owned guns in the country. I might also add, because the people are taught responsibility and the value of human life that there has never been a single violent crime committed in the county (except for a few skirmishes that occurred with the Native Americans when it was first settled). Even our gun accidents don't result in fatalities. When there is a gun accident, the person usually got shot in the leg or arm. But never anything fatal. Actually, I don't know if there has been a crime committed in my county ever, short of DUI's.

    It's about RESPONSIBILITY.

I now live in a medium to large sized community, and I feel much less safe, but I'm not afraid to walk down the street by any means. There are just some areas I like to avoid.

No it's not. It has nothing to to with the guns it has to do with not enforcing laws like we should, not paying attention to people who need help, and a really bad economy. All of this will lead to high crime rates.

Where I'm from we don't have gang bangers running around with Uzis and sawed off shotguns. Everyone owns a gun and knows how to handle one with respect here.

I absolutely feel safe. I sleep soundly, I dont even lock my doors. And I dont own a gun.

Im thinking all the gun-toting rabble rousers must be living in fear. Thats them... not me.

more guns = less crimes, for the size of the U.S. poppulation we actually have a low crime rate. Best thing for you to do is to purchase a firearm, and learn to fire it.
