I think part of it is that gay men are not after women. Sometimes, when a women meets a gay man, he is charming and pleasant and is not trying to pick her up. They can have a normal conversation and that makes a woman feel at ease."This guy does not feel threatening" can turn into mild attraction.

However the assertion that "guys who want women are douchebags because women almost always want them" has several problem. One, gay men can be douches too, especially to each other. The problems that plague heterosexual relationships are not magically absent from gay relationships. Lots of people, of any orientation, are abusive to their partner. Most abusive douches are only nasty to their partner, towards whom he may feel possessive, but be pleasant to others. Two, women are really not that into jerks. "Nice guys" can be a special brand of a$$hole.

Though I understand the top part of the question; I do hear SOME women saying the good men are either gay or married. But the body part I really don't get.

One of my only male friends was gay and I had a huge crush on him and I thought all the best guys were gay until I met my Hubby and he changed my mind.
