What are good cities for single parent families to raise children in?

I would say NO city; country areas are better.

I live in Dixon,Ca and i'm also a single mother. It's a small town, no violence, very little to do but only 10-15 mins away from 2 others towns that have plenty things to do w/kids n outlets to shop at. I personally love living here and i think it's one of the best towns to raise a child. :)

Burlington, VT.

It was voted A&E's top city to raise a family in the whole US a few years ago. I was living in the south end (a nice area, not like Chicago south end) until just a month ago due to my landlord selling the property I was living in.

But we have good schools, it isn't like a big city with a lot of crime. Not to say there is NO crime, but its like, people steal pickle jars and "tag" the side of the mall. we have lots of festivals, a local food program, progressive politics, art programs, etc....

Ok, apparently it was 1999, but whatever, it's still a nice place.
