Why do you warship a god?
I've recently asked a question: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AiLkH...
about why people are religious. But here is my follow up question:
Why do you warship a god? Is it just because "he created" you? Is there a deeper purpose? Why should you put time and effort into warshipping something that created you? That being said, why wouldn't you warship your parents? Why do people build gigantic monuments to warship in?
(I'm not trying to disprove anyone, I'm just really confused atm, i'm not understanding Theist reasoning, so I am trying to understand)
Rae of Sunshine: Thank you for your answer, it was very well written. But why do you feel a need to show respect towards them (I'm not talking about disrespect) But why do you respect them?
NDMA: But why? Why does it make sense to "acknowledge the creator"? You already exist, so why does it matter about acknowledgement?
Katie: So you are telling me that you would gladly throw your life away to "ascend" to another realm?
Donald:......so, are you saying you're a demigod? (just kidding) Why do you warship him as your father? Your father is your father, so why not warship him if you warship your "heavenly father"?
Secular Thinker: Thank you for your service, sir.
† 2 Peter 3:9 †: Why? Because the bible says so?

I would not exist were it not for the creator. It therefore makes sense that I should acknowledge the Creator. How is that so difficult to understand?
Why? because I didn't and don't have to exist... My very existence (because it is unnecessary) amounts to an acknowledgement by the creator. I am reciprocating that acknowledgement. If nothing else that is only being polite! Would you have me be ungrateful?
IF your mother or father gives you food. Why should you acknowledge them - you already have the food!

I think it's mostly meant to be a symbol of faith and belief. For example, as a Wiccan I have both a god and goddess, but they have many faces. So having specific monuments would be silly, even if I do have a particular patron and patroness I feel closer to. But I do want to show my respect for them, so I have an altar with generalized symbols. And that's okay.
It's because we all have to believe in something, even if it's believing that you believe in nothing (if that didn't accidentally negate itself.) So having symbols of that remind us of that faith in our every day life so we don't get too caught up in ourselves. Or at least that's what it is supposed to do, even if it doesn't always work like that.

"eternal reward" is a good substitute for health care benefits. Plus the priests are always so nice and they have great digs.
edit : in all seriousness I believe god is an energy. Each of us have a drop of that energy. If you really want to worship that energy you must live your life to the fullest. You must be truthful with others and yourself most importantly. You must recognize the goodness within you that you're born with. If you can't see the goodness in yourself you won't be able to see it in others. If you're always thinking about the negative things you shouldn't be doing instead of the good and productive things you can do you will be unhappy and unable to see the goodness in the world. Sorry for being a little smug....:)) Friends??
I think christians and others sometimes miss this sometimes in the striving to follow a set of rules and commands.
