Prolonged, unexplained nausea?

Hi there,

I've been experiencing bouts of nausea for around 5 months, since last fall (it usually lasts for a few days, then goes away for a few days, then comes back, etc.) When it first began, the doctor thought my symptoms sounded like an ulcer (when the nausea subsides, it is replaced by intense, burning hunger)... but I had an upper Endoscopy done and my stomach was normal, aside from some slight inflammation. They did a biopsy, too, and no h. pylori bacteria was present.

I've also had headaches, abdominal pain, fatigue, weakness, etc.

Then I had a stomach emptying study and a HIDA scan (biliary scan, testing my gallbladder) - both came back normal. I still have to do a blood test for hormone imbalance and celiac disease, but I highly doubt it's either one of those. I have wondered about Giardia because I worked at a preschool/day care for several years up until last summer.

I just think it must be something because it came up so suddenly and hasn't gone away, and a lot of times it gets so bad I can't eat and I lose weight (and I can't afford to lose any more weight!)

And yes, as I've said, I am seeing a specialist but I was just wondering if anyone had any helpful ideas... ?

Thanks so much!

Update:

I will ask about pancreas and liver issues, but as for an ovarian cyst, that could be a possibility and it hasn't been brought up yet. However, is it normal to have an ovarian cyst without much pain, mainly nausea? Nausea is the primary symptom =/

I had the same symptoms before I was diagnosed with an ovarian cyst.....Has that ever been brought up as a possible problem?

Edit: I see.....No, it's not normal to have an ovarian cyst without much pain. However, I remember not having too much abdominal pain with my first cyst unless I was on my period. Nausea was my main symptom, but that's because my ovarian cyst turned into a 7 lb. tumor, so my entire stomach was being squished, (I was diagnosed with what's called mucinous cystadenoma). Even though I had the same symptoms as you are experiencing now and went through some of the same experiences, (I almost had an endoscopy done and it was thought I had Celiac disease), I guess I can't really compare what I had to what you have now. You most likely have something different. Still wouldn't hurt to ask though, lol. :p

Goodness......I hope you get this figured out soon, I really do. Take care!

Good luck! I hope you get things figured out soon. :)

Did the health care professional scan you for H-pylori? It's the micro organism that reasons ulcers. You sound such as you would have one. It must be handled with the nexium and antibiotics. Ask your dad and mom to call your health care professional, an untreated ulcer can emerge as unsafe, to not mention painful. And, sure, unexplained nausea is a hallmark symptom of an ulcer.

No idea, but rule out pancreas and liver problems. Also see here: http://www.wakehealth.edu/Health-Central/Unexplain...
