Why its said that we must respect parents?
Specially islam mentions this.. But i dont see any reason to respect parests more than normal ppl. Whatever they have done to me was their absolute duty. Even if u get a pet u will take care of it.. Moreover parents are ppl who brought u to this world.. They are responsible for ur suffering which is more than happiness always... So why do we have to respect them more than other ppl?

Generally, they try to keep you from making the same mistakes that they did----- their experience is priceless in that area. They can often see the direction that you are going in your life and education, and try to help with constant advice. That is wise for a parent to do. If you ever become a parent, you will give advice to your child too.

Wow! that sure is some self-centredness! i mean seriously! how old are u! if u do not even understand the love of parents!
yes, parents bring u into this world,
but do u even know the pain a mother goes through when she conceives u?!!
also so if its your parents job to take care of u, raise u etc, then don't u think u also have some duties? no relationship is one-way. there has to be some give and take. so lets say if ur pet u take care of and love it, however ot one day turns unto u and scratches/physically hurts u, i wonder how would u feel? many parents dont even own their kids, and guess what? nothing's stopping them. if u expect ur parents to take care of u, u have a duty too, to be respectful to them
also religion has got NOTHING to do with this! its a common etiquette ! -_- also christianity tells u to respect ur parents, what's the point of bringing islam in it -__- unless u wanted to make it look bad!-.-

that's a pretty negative out look towards life, you got there. I'm taking you don't treat them with love too? They are responsible for only your suffering and not your happiness??? WOW, you take them for granted. When you have kids and they disrespect you and show more respect in other people, maybe you'll understand it more then. Self value is very important, if you know what that means! It's not valuing yourself. it's valuing what you have.

Respecting your parents is not something that belongs to religion. Respecting your parents is something that needs to be done because they are raising you. People say to respect your parents because they have been through it all and know that when you get older you will look back and regret the moments.
You say you wont regret it? trust me you will, everyone does.
Respecting your parents and elders is the appreciation you show for the things they do for you.

Obvious reasons on this one. Here are some examples. They conceived you and your mother gave birth to you through extreme pain. They cared for you when you could not, they feed you and clothed you, they pay for a room, power, water and other amenities that you want or even desire. Love you, hold you and scold you when you do wrong or even punish you. If they didn't how would you know what was wrong from right. Transport you from one place to another weather you want to or not. Pay for your medical, vision and dental needs. And Love you some more.

In Islam, the honor, respect, and esteem attached to motherhood is
unparalleled. The Quran places the importance of kindness to parents as
second only to worshipping God Almighty:
"Your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him, And that you be
kind to parents. Whether one or both of them attain old age in your life,
Say not to them a word of contempt, nor repel them, But address them in
terms of honor. And out of kindness, Lower to them the wing of humility,
and say:' My Lord! bestow on them Your Mercy as they Cherished me in
childhood " (Quran 17:23-24).
The Quran in several other places puts special emphasis on the mother's
great role in giving birth and nursing:
"And We have enjoined on man to be good to his parents: In travail upon
travail did his mother bear him and in two years was his weaning. Show
gratitude to Me and to your parents" (Quran 31:14).

The very special place of mothers in Islam has been eloquently described
by Prophet Muhammad:
"A man asked the Prophet: 'Whom should I honor most?' The Prophet
replied: 'Your mother'. 'And who comes next?' asked the man. The Prophet
replied: 'Your mother'. 'And who comes next?' asked the man. The Prophet
replied: 'Your mother!'. 'And who comes next?' asked the man. The
Prophet replied: 'Your father'" (Bukhari and Muslim).
Among the few precepts of Islam which Muslims still faithfully observe to
the present day is the considerate treatment of mothers. The honor that
Muslim mothers receive from their sons and daughters is exemplary. The
intensely warm relations between Muslim mothers and their children and
the deep respect with which Muslim men approach their mothers usually
amaze nonmuslims.
