I would like help with grammar in the following sentence?

Should I use "are" or "is" in the following:

''On the table are a laptop, a paper, a calculator, an appointment calendar, two pens and a muffin.''

(ps, please don't fuss at me for asking you to do my homework; i am 62, and this isn't a homework assignment).

Definitely ARE. It would be IS only if it were a single item. In this case, several items ARE on the table.
