Do you have a fenced in yard?

I just adopted a Boxer puppy 1 week ago and every time I take him out I take him on a leash and walk him around for 10-20 minutes until he potties.

I have a house and a large yard (4 acres) so I was thinking about fencing it in.

So, do you have a fenced yard? What kind of fence is it and do you know/remember how much it cost? Also, how much did you fence in?

Thanks!

I didn't have a huge yard like yours, but when i fenced my yard in I went to Home Depot to get my supplies and it cost me about $1600

It was about a 150 by 30ft yard

    and I used wood fencing

(if you use metal fencing it probably be cheaper, but if ur dog is prone to try and escape, it might not be that effective)

Nope - no fences. We walked all our dogs around the perimeter to show them their boundary. We taught them to come to us immediately when called before they were ever off a leash. Once they were off the leash and strayed to close to the boundary (about 4 yards from it) we would call them and reinforce "stay here". They learned quite quickly!

At our old place we had to put shock collars on our dogs and buried a line. Dad didn't want a fence and we had coyotes. The coyotes were known to send one or two members of the pack which would get the dogs attention and then it would lure the dog to an "ambush". The dog would be surrounded and the coyotes had a nice feast, or just a good fight. That was the only reason we had collars on them, it was so they couldn't be tempted to go after the coyotes.

That didn't really answer your questions though...

I even have owned 5 dogs, and not in any respect have I had a fenced-in backyard. each each now and then the fenced-in backyard requirement frustrates me, yet i'm able to be certain the reasoning in the back of it. i think of that breeders/shelters/rescues choose human beings to have fenced-in yards because of the fact the dogs are probable lots greater possibly to get a good volume of workout. maximum of human beings get a clean dogs and say "oh yeah, i'm going to take him for walks" and then they do no longer choose to awaken early in the morning to do it, they're too drained on the tip of the day, or the dogs ought to have a behavioral situation that makes it exceptionally confusing and stressful to bypass on walks. My sister owns an Airedale and that i understand existence may be lots greater handy if we had a fenced-in backyard considering dogs has have been given greater capability than a border collie. He desires a good stable loose run. We each each now and then take our dogs to an empty ball park to play because of the fact they only choose that factor off leash. A fenced in backyard supplies dogs that probability, and it will advance safety via reducing threat of dogs being hit via automobile/dogs leaping on somebody/dogs attacking somebody. I understand what you assert, that fenced in yards can inspire some vendors to be lazy and be worse off for the dogs, yet i think of that the breeders/shelters/rescues are proceeding that the fenced-in backyard is used for play time, and not for the dogs to be left by myself in all day. The breeders/shelters/rescues probable do further screening to hopefully discover worrying vendors who would be in charge and function a fenced-in backyard so the dogs could have rather some workout.

yes, we had it installed last year for our two dogs

its a black vinel covered metal fence, which our dogs havn't tried to dig under, but for our fairly small city yard, it cost about $1500.
