Is it safe to keep a rat and a mouse in the same cage?
I have had two female fancy mice since October, but the dominant one of the two of them unfortunately passed away. I don't like that my one mouse is alone now, but I would prefer a rat over another mouse. Would it be safe to keep a rat and a fancy mouse in the same cage?

It's not impossible but i would be very careful about it. Wild rats will kill and or eat wild mice both for food and because they see them as a challenge for resources. It might be possible but, personally, I wouldn't do it. Rats are great with animals bigger than they are but can be deadly to those smaller.

What a coincidence Rachel, that's something I've also mused over No rats and mice cannot be in the same cage together because they are two different animals. Rats have disease in their feces that would kill the mouse or get the mouse I hope this answers your question.

No!!! Don't!! It is a very normal story that proprietor put the rats in with their mice and so they seem to get alongside so they hold doing it then at some point they're bowled over that their rats killed their mice! Rats are omnivores and will hunt mice within the wild, something smaller than them is reasonable recreation. She could also be getting together with them for now due to the fact that they are infants, and she or he may be very lonely if she is the one rat you have, shes just looking for extra attention! Rats want different rats, however please take away your mice from your rats cage, it is extremely detrimental for them

It's a good question Rachel, and my answer is: No rats and mice cannot be in the same cage together because they are two different animals. Rats have disease in their feces that would kill the mouse or get the mouse I hope this answers your question.

No, you cannot. Mice and rats are separate species and cannot mix, ever. Rats are also a lot larger than mice and they will not get on. They also have slightly different dietary needs. Rats also need lots of space to climb and explore like hammocks and ladders, whereas mice need flat open space to run around in, and rat cage bars are usually much too large for mice to be kept safely in.
Please keep these two species separate. Introducing two mice is a risky process, and you can try it if you want but your mouse should be fine on its own.

No rats and mice cannot be in the same cage together because they are two different animals. Rats have disease in their feces that would kill the mouse or get the mouse sick. In addition Rats are more aggressive towards other rodents such as mice and hamster even sometimes gerbils so, it would be best to keep the two in a separate cage compared to the others.

It's like asking can a zebra stay in the same enclosure as a lion? Of course not. Mice are natural prey to rats in the wild.

No.
in the wild, rats naturally predate on mice. domestic rats have less hunting instinct, but are still more likely to see a mouse as a snack than a friend.

I've seen it been done on youtube. and although it isn't guaranteed the rat will kill the mouse,in nature they are natural enemies.
The chances of the rat trying to killing the mouse will be like 8/10.
Don't do it.
