How to get rid of hives/contact dermaitis in a 3 year old?
A couple weeks ago we bought an off brand laundry soap because we needed some, and we're a little low on cash that week. My son was allergic so we stopped using it, and went back to our old brand. He still has hives two weeks later, after rewashing his clothing. I have been bathing him daily, and putting some mosturizing lotion with no perfumes on him every night after bath, and during the day. The hives are still there. Is there anything else I can use? I heard Bendryl might help, but it is not safe for kids under 4. I cannot take him to the doctor. I no longer have Medicaid, and he doesn't go on my husband's insurance until March 1st.

Our doctors prescribe the use of benadryl for allergic reactions. You could try that. If all of his clothing/bedding/anything his skin comes in contact with has been washed, you might consider a new food of some sort that is also contributing to the problem. Some benadryl cream might get you better results than a moisturing lotion - you want to use something that is specifically for allergic reactions (such as benadryl). If this continues to get worse OR he starts having any trouble breathing, then you will need to seek medical care. Consider locating a free clinic in your area where you can take him to get checked. Most communities have one but they are not advertised - it is often by word of mouth.
