Asthma inhaler, am I overdoing it?
Like 6 or 8 years ago my doctor said when I need my inhaler to take two puffs and no more for 6 hours. Nowadays I very rarely need my inhaler but all week I've needed it. I've used it 4 times (8 puffs) in the past 7 hours. But after an hour or two my chest is tight again and it's hard to breathe. I'm at school so I can't use my nebulizer for another 5 hours. The medicine is making me really shaky but even now I'm not breathing as easy as normal. Is it ok to keep using it?

I would say keep using it but definatly when you get home make an appointment with your doctor and tell him or her that you have had to use your inhaler more often then what you have had to use it before. It may be caused by the seasons changing or by some mold in your school or dust and its aggravating your asthma maybe. I would definatly talk with your school nurse and ask if you could bring your nebulizer to the school and keep it there or get another nebulizer and bring it to the school so that in the event something like this happens again you can just go to the nurse's office and use it there instead of waiting 5 hours. i also know that some types of medications used in inhalers can cause a false form of asthma ( i forgot what its called but it can be a side effect of using certian asthma medications). It could be that you are overusing the asthma inhaler as well although im not sure about that as i dont think they are steriod base medications ( but they may be) if the case then i would stop and just try to take as deep a breath as you can and then relax and slowly breath ( if still not better then use it if have to) as i do this alot and it helps. Hope this helps and i hope you feel better soon.

You need to go to the doctor to get something like Prednisone, in addition to your nebulizer or inhaler.
The Prednisone will help you so you don't have to use your albuterol inhaler so much. You have to breath though so you have to take your inhaler.
You need to go to your school nurse and tell them you can't control your asthma. Have someone take you to your doctor or ER so they can give you other medicine.
You'll only have to take Prednisone for a short time.
Seriously, we all got thumbs down?
You still need to go to your doctor or ER. no matter what anyone says on here. Today!

Leave school and see a doctor ASAP. In other cases like this people have gone into a severe attack and died! Seriously.
Your asthma is uncontrolled and only a doctor can get you out of this attack and prescribe meds to prevent future problems.
I know what I'm saying- not only am I *currently* a respiratory therapist with 28years experience, I'm an asthmatic. Please go now.

m, Wrong Move-- Your Doctor told you two puffs. This could damage ur lungs and it will make you need more and more to control your Asthma, ur Doctor would not be telling u this to hear himself talk. Good Luck m......................Rita
