What happens if a mouse bite swells up?
My mum was bitten by my pet mouse (boy). It was really hard she said and her finger is numb, swollen and cannot move. I hear that you can get really sick from mouse bites, but I never have (has been bitten before, but was never swollen). Will she be alright? What does the swelling mean? How can you tell if its bad? Does she need a needle? Please answer!

Your mum needs to go to the doctor or hospital right away as she is having a bad reaction to the bite. Her finger will continue to swell so if she has a ring on the finger she should remove it now as the circulation could be cut off. Your mum needs an antibiotic and possibly an anti-histamine to calm things down a bit. Your mum will be fine after treatment but her finger will be sore for a few days and she may need painkillers. Good luck

It relies on whether or not it was once a wild mouse or a domestic mouse, the sort bred for pets or snake food, and whether or not or now not your cousin has had a tetanus shot inside the final 10 years. If she's up -to-date on her tetanus, and the bite does not show up critical, wash it with soap and heat water, like every other wound. If she has now not had a shot, she needs one within 24 hours, when you consider that rodent bites are prone to develope complications. If it was once a WILD mouse, she's going to have to contact the well being dept. Instantly. At the same time rabies is genuinely infrequent in rodents, it's no longer remarkable-higher secure than sorry. That is the advice/protocol that was given to me by means of our health dept. Once I bought bitten through a home mouse(the white ones)a few years in the past. It clamped down on my index finger, simply biting so deep that it severed the most important artery and lymph node in the finger, inflicting severe bleeding and swelling, to the extent that I had to go to the ER. My hand swelled so rapid that my rings needed to be cut off with wire cutters to hinder them from slicing off the entire circulation in my fingers. Don't reduction the harm a bit mouse can do with those razor-like tooth!

She should definitely get it checked out. Even though it's a pet mice are carriers of many diseases.
