R&P Do you believe there is such a thing as constructive criticism?

Because every time someone gives "constructive" criticism on this section, they get a thumbs down. Someone asks an opinion about a subgenre, gets an opinion, then they thumbs down that opinion.

BQ: What's the last concert you went to? What's the next concert you're planning on going to?

BQ2: What's the last album you bought? If you were going to buy another one, which one will it be?

BQ3: What's your least favorite genre and why don't you like it?

Yeah certainly. It's when you tell someone how they could improve something because you'd like to see them get better. I wouldn't take things on here seriously. Thumbs are just thumbs.

BA: I saw Korpiklaani and Metsatöll live. I'm going on next Tuesday to Paganfest to see a bunch of Pagan/Folk Metal themed bands. Alestorm is headlining!

BA2: Shamanviolin. It's this really weird thing. It's made by this Finnish violinist who plays the violin, shaman drum and bells to recreate music played in Lapland like a hundred years ago. Weird stuff.

BA3: Most likely anything that's on the charts or radios. Why? It's mass-produced crap with the goal of winning awards and making money. It's not about music. It's an industry product.

I do believe there is a fine line between constructive criticism and outright hate. Some suggestions should be taken to heart, but its often to do what you think is best. No matter what you do or say there will always be someone who thinks different. Thats just how people are.

BQ: I've haven't been to a show in a long time, last one being some very small Punk venue out here. Most of the bands there were local. As for another show, I don't really know. Anything would be nice but I would love to go to a Metal show.

BQ2: Bought an old Negative Approach EP, mostly live tracks but I like it a lot. As for the next I may expand my Death Metal library. I asked a question a while back on which Vader album I should get because I'm not very familiar with them. I got some suggestions and whenever I have some money to spend I'm going forward with it.

BQ3: Rap and Pop, I just never could get into it. Then again the only Rap I've heard is what they have on the radio and what they give awards out to. So maybe I'm a bit judgmental and I should see what they have underground before forming an accurate opinion. As for Pop, yeah never really liked Pop save for a few songs.

Absolutely, nearly all criticism is constructive in a sense. Even if you tell the person they're awful, if you tell them why it's constructive.

BQ:My Morning Jacket, for the next? No idea, I've been penny pinching to save up to move and it has been a real bummer

BQ2: The Band: Islands and Buddy Guy & Santana: Live- I only buy vinyl, and mostly used. Some albums on my "To Buy" list are Built To Last: The Grateful Dead, Neil young: On The Beach, and Townes Van Zandt: High, Low, & In Between.

BQ3: My least favorite genre is bad music (imo there's 2 genres, good and bad music.)

yes I do believe there is such a thing as constructive criticism (here and elsewhere)

a thumbs down does not mean the answer was wrong or right - it simply means someone disagreed or did not like the answer. I think you are making too much of an issue out of "thumbs down".

    BA: Don't remember. Don't know.

BA2: The Faction (collection); old stuff, but I was not able to get all their old original albums before.

    BA3: country and metal. I just don't.

Yes. I can relate to this, though I don't get all that many TD's. Constructive criticism is still an opinionated answer, and some people post rants just to get people to agree (not counting trolls). I'm always tempted to post this on questions from close-minded people-

BQ- The last concert I went to was...Gotye. I'm really glad I got to go, it was actually a really good show (even though he played his radio hit, he's got some interesting music), and the opening bands were great. I have no idea who I'm gonna see next.

BQ2- Last album I bought was "Bones" by Young Guns. Digitally speaking of course-

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bones_(album)

The last album that I bought in the real sense was "What Makes Us So Alive?" by We Are Voices-

BQ3- I think my least favorite genre is modern pop, and that's just because I'm not interested enough. I'm not a fan of using autotunes to make up for lack of talent, and I honestly think the lyrics are kind of shallow, without substance. I don't dislike the genre as a whole, but I think that's the genre that I'm least likely to choose to listen to.

Hello.Yes constructive criticism is a great thing.I often do it and get many thumbs down. People are often very biased towards what they like.I'm guilty myself too.

BQ)Rush 02 London May 2011. Next one Rush 02 London May 2013 .Same seat. ha ha!

BQ2)Clockwork Angels by Rush.I'm still not keen on it.Flat sound. That's the last full price.I have picked up some cheap ones since in markets etc. Not intending to buy any soon due to cash flow.

BQ3)Thrash metal.if i were to name one.I'm not keen on catergorizing music anyway. It all crosses over.

Yes, there is such a thing as constructive criticism. People just don't understand how to be "constructive."

BQ: I saw BOTDF back in December. It was pretty cool.

BQ2: Torture by Cannibal Corpse. Next one is probably gonna be The Wretched Spawn.

BQ3: Country music. Because I lived next to a dumb, stupid hillbilly for 10 years, and friggin' country music is all he ever played.

Yes I do. But when it comes to tearing down, or putting someone down for what they like, no matter what it is, that would not be constructive criticism. Saying I don't like something or its not my thing is alright, but saying I hate that, it sucks or you have no taste in music is wrong.

BQ: Neil Young & Crazy Horse, last December just before Christmas. None at the moment

BQ2: The last two I bought were, La Futura by ZZ Top and Music From Another Dimension! by Aerosmith.

BQ3: I don't listen to music as a genre so I don't have a favorite or one that I dislike. I listen to "Music" as "Music" first and never stop to think what genre it is.

    take care

Well I don't believe in constructive criticism when it comes to your opinion on things. Not every one is going to like what someone else likes and thumbing down opinions is just plain inmature. You are going to have people that disagree no matter what.

BQ: I have never been to a concert sadly

BQ2: I bought Audioslaves first album. Next I want to buy Radioheads "In Rainbows". It wasn't at the store last time I checked.

BQ3: Bluegrass. I can't stand the sound of a banjo

I do believe in constructive criticism, but only when you are giving actual advice to someone. "Justin Bieber sucks," or "Pop music is crap" are the most common types of criticism in this section, and are far from constructive.

BQ: I went to see a GNR tribute band called Appetite for Destruction

BQ2: Opeth - Blackwater Park. That was the only one I wanted at the time.

BQ3: Screamo. To me, it fits the stereotype that a lot of people attribute to all Metal: noise and mindless screaming.
