Why do some people interpret the bible like this?
I was watching a documentary on the westboro baptist church and saw how they chose to interpret the bible. Because the bible that I read talks about "loving they neighbor" and "forgiving those" and love and peace (I am quoting the new testament, not really quoting but just saying what it basically says in many parts ) I was just wondering why they would read it in "that" way if anyone could answer this because I am dumbfounded.
@ Ideleness: We just went over this, thats what a lot of it says, I don't want to actually have to look up things to quote directly from the book. But that is what Jesus preached, if you don't believe me than well thats you opinion. But I did read the new testement, I was raised in a catholic household (kind of, my mother does/ did not believe that a single religion can be right and all the others are wrong)
@Affirmer-ess: Again if you read it (actually read it and put half of your brain into it) than you would see that I said that I do not have an actual quote just summing up what a lot of it says, I did that so that people could understand it better because the bible is written in odd language (to some very confusing) and I know what the meaning of it is and I just put that into words that people can relate to.

The text used by WBC came from law school. It is not the Bible. Their belief system is simple:
1. Pick a topic that will antagonize a vocal group.
2. Find a place where you can cause these people to gather in opposition to you.
3. Push the buttons of the gathering crowd until they overreact.
4. Sue the individuals who overreact for violating your First Amendment rights.
5. Hide behind your disguise as a church.
6. Use the tax-exempt money from the lawsuits to repeat the process.

The WBC are a perfect example of people who interpret the Bible falsely and fail to think for themselves. This is partially why people sometimes stereotype Christians as mindless followers, although that is not the case at all. I don't know how they interpret that part, I'm sure they have some bs idea on that one too, but at least most people don't have such horrible opinions as the WBC. I'd prefer to be surrounded by atheists rather than WBC Christians. At least atheists have more sense.

Some parts of the bible do promote loving your neighbor and being honest and stuff like that, but a lot of the bible also promotes some very wicked things. Hell itself, created by god, is a completely immoral idea based around an infinite punishment for a finite crime. WBC sucks, no doubt, but at least they are honest enough to admit that the god of the bible is not a loving god.

These small cults are not normally about religion as much as they are about personal beliefs and desires. The Westboro individuals know that their interpretation is flawed, because when they are asked basic questions (during interviews) they actually say "I don't know' or "I can't answer that question." Unlike many other religions who falsely interpret the bible, they don't even attempt to try and find excuses for their fallacies. They actually admit not knowing the answer.
This lack of desire to even attempt basic logical arguments shows that they really don't care about the bible or the scriptures teachings. To them its all about teaching their personal beliefs (anti-gay, anti-american beliefs). The bible is nothing more than a crutch....

They are simply examples of Christian Terrorists and other Christians you might notice, do nothing to stop them. Christian terrorism comprises terrorist acts by groups or individuals who claim Christian motivations or goals for their actions. As with other forms of religious terrorism, Christian terrorists have relied on idiosyncratic or literal interpretations of the tenets of faith – in this case, the Bible. Such groups have cited Old Testament and New Testament scriptures to justify violence and killing or to seek to bring about the "end times" described in the New Testament, while others have hoped to bring about a Christian theocracy.

The new covenant of the bible represented by the birth and death of Jesus Christ is not portrayed to an inkling by the WBC they are a blasphemous hate group.. no where near anything God honors.

Actually? The WBC VERY CLOSELY represents the Bible.
Atheists have been telling Christians that it is a disgusting book for ever.
But, it takes the actions of people like the WBC to PROVE it.
MOST Christians deplore what they do, and rightly so.
Atheists say "all they are doing is following your book."

you arent quoting anything and I doubt you read the new testament
no i dont believe you and no its not an opinion. The most loving message jesus gave was the sermon on the mount. Thats like one verse of the entire new testament. Most of the rest of the new testament is full of some pretty uninspiring crap. Im telling you truth, not opinion.

To justify their own hatred. They want to feel that they are better then others and use their faith to justify those feelings.
