Can you see Machiavellian principles in Practice today ?

'The Prince' [celebrating 500 years of being penned] lays down certain rules, qualities, strategies for a successful ruler. ...

Can you see them in practice in the present democracies ?

Is/How is 'The Prince' relevant today ?

Do you find political & state leaders using these strategies in their Action, even if there words are 'modern' & 'politically correct' ?

Your thoughts, views, comments ....

I see them as the prevailing elements in the political climates (and economies) in much of the world, the parts most adhered to by majorities who depend on the conditions they claim to hate much more than they care to admit.

Machiavelli wrote the portrait of the sort of personality most able to gain and use power due to being the least encumbered by conscience; people who aren't bothered, therefore stymied, by what on an interpersonal level allows civilized, polite societies to function as we are accustomed to..so long as the Machiavellian is in the shadows doing the 'dirty work' the rest seem to want (and often enough cry out for), allowing the same polite citizens to not necessarily 'know' what really goes on and so easily decry it when it's time to do so.
