How is asking for source a violation of Yahoo Community Guidelines?

Recently a Question of mine was reported and taken down. The question was about another post repeated many time that I have seen namely 500,000 Arab immigrated to Palestine between 1922 and 1947. I didn't name the poster nor commented on the accuracy of the statement, just the origin of the statistic.

So how is asking source for a statistic a violation? Isn't that the whole purpose of Yahoo! Answers?

Well if it's this question then either it wasn't actually removed as a violation or you had it reinstated in the meantime http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=201303...

If it's the latter then don't react to violations like that. It will only wind you up & likely end up with you getting more violations from being annoyed.

Best thing to do in cases like this where you are sure you are not in violation is to place a calmly written appeal stating why your question was NOT a violation (don't ask why, do state why not), get it reinstated and then "he who laughs last, laughs the loudest" ;)

By getting false reports reinstated then it will mean that a reporter regularly doing that trick will find it a lot harder to carry on with false reporting.

Asking for the source of a statistic is not a violation. Something else in your question was most likely the violation. It's probably all in the phrasing. Or it might be in the additional details.

If you phrase your question like this "If a poster advocates a disgusting libel, would that change the way you view their answers and/or questions?" you are really asking for reactions and opinions, not for useful knowledge -- even if the topic at hand (in your case, most likely Israel) is useful. The question is a violation.

If you respond to answerers in the Additional Details section, that is considered chatting and can get an otherwise-legitimate question removed posthaste. It does seem to be a habit of yours. This isn't a site for discussions.

This is an information exchange site -- not a chat room or social contact site or even a discussion forum. Questions here must be seeking knowledge or advice of general interest to the community. Answers must attempt to answer the question.

Many things that would be totally fine and even requested in a discussion forum or a chat room are definitely not ok here, because this is an information exchange site. Because its aim is different, its rules are different.

When you signed up to use this site, you agreed to follow the Community Guidelines here. Please read them again. I'm sure you did at one point. It looks like it might be time to read them again. The Guidelines are found under the ABOUT tab at the top of the page.

Once you've read them, there is even a short quiz you can take that can get you 20 extra points. If you haven't yet taken it, give it a try.

It mainly lets you know if you have understood the Guidelines as well as you think you have. Your opinions and viewpoints seem to be well-thought-out and well-expressed. Please don't risk having them removed through technicalities. Learn and follow the Guidelines so your posts stay up.

When a question links to or references another user's question or answer, it can just about always be reported as a 'calling out' violation.

If a question links to or references an asker's OWN question or answer, it's usually 'spam'.

Since your question was 'about another post', my guess is that you were reported for calling out another user, even though you did not name that user. It's just not a good idea to do that.

You could have posted the statistic itself and asked for a source, without reference to the Q or A posting.

    It probably was your format.

What is a reference for the statistic....? is an ok format

Do you know the reference for the statistic...? is a chatty format since it can simple be answered "no".

If you want to know the reason for the violation, post "Why was this question (answer) a violation?" and add the original e-mail you get (within 24 hours) and any added details you remember so the users can see the exact context. The experienced users here will explain it to you. There is no statute of limitations on breaking the YA rules.

Well, that's not a violation. Actually there are some people who are here just to report other's questions. You can appeal against it to yahoo! Answers and you can get back your question and 10 points.

so some distance as i understand, this is not any longer, yet in specific circumstances the regulations are slightly muddled. this is kinda/sorta in the incorrect section for such, technically, that may characterize a violation, yet i'm uncertain. in case you think of this is incorrect, combat for it back, i think. do no longer ***** here - i'm extraordinarily specific that must be seen as a violation, too, if perceived as a rant. as properly, it quite is a query for the Y!slightly, everywhere which would be in this internet site.
