What do you think of this quote...?

"I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours."

I see exactly where he is coming from.

The thing is, if you don't understand someone's rejection of one deity, you probably didn't actually investigate your current belief in a deity before simply deciding "I believe in this deity".

Which means obviously you should investigate everything thoroughly before you make a decision to reject it or accept it.

Which sadly, the vast majority of atheists and theists do not do.

    If you're wondering,

I believe in the Christian God because I have personally experienced him in events that correlate to the promises and descriptions of God's character in the Bible; I find Jesus' actions and ideals understandable, logical if Love is really the most important thing, and I agree with them; And lastly because of the change in my life through the Holy Spirit that I have experienced since becoming a Christian, which I believe could not happen by any other means.

After all this, of course I still investigate what other people believe out of curiosity, but through the personal evidence that has been set before me and decisively through understanding God's character and claims in the Bible; I can conclude for myself at least, that my God is the only god.

Therefore I maintain that I have the right to dismiss other gods.

Roberts doesn't seem to really understand why people most Christians don't believe in Zeus. The reason isn't for logical reasons. It is because they have faith that their god is the only god. Or to put it another way, the reason the don't believe in Zeus is the same reason they believe in their god.

But that isn't the reason that I am an atheist.

    Very true.

I like to ask Christians that if faith is so important than what about hindus who have very deep, personal faith?

They have no good answer for this.
