If men are victims of domestic violence just as much as women (as MRAs claim)...?
Then why do they complain about domestic violence legislation? They say that such laws favor women but, correct me if I'm wrong, no where does it specify what gender the victim and abusers are. It just supports victims and punishes abusers.
If men really are victims just as much (which is not proven by any means - they just say "Oh, it must be because men don't report it"), then why don't they WANT this legislation?
Thanks for the answers but the question still remains - Say I agree with you that men are just as abused as women in relationships: shouldn't that mean they support the legislation? Why do I see so many guys asking questions about these laws favouring women? It's almost as if they are admitting they are wrong by automatically assuming it's always the women on the receiving end.

Violence is against the law period. For some reason, MRAs either want the word "women" removed from these laws against violence, and either "add" the word "men", or have specific laws against violence that are just for men...
Any monkey would know that violence is against the law, but for some reason, the laws that specifically state women [i.e., VAWA] is offensive to men, despite the fact that more women are killed, beaten, hospitalized by MEN they "love", than there are women that kill, beat, hospitalize men that they love.
That's NOT to say that there aren't any cases where women HAVE killed, beat, hospitalized their spouse, boyfriend, etc... It's just to say that the MAJORITY of those cases are the opposite.
Also, there are others still that think "slap in the face" equals "death, bodily injury, etc..." as a retaliation. instead of reporting, or removing themselves from the situation, whereas women may not be physically strong enough to leave.

I've never come across a TRUE MRA make such claims. Feminists love taking what trolls, misogynists, and inter-gender trolls [that is, women pretending to be men on the internet] say as proof-positive that MRAs want more than just equality - subjugation of women and turning the clock back by about a century.

well look at it this way what might a gay man think about a legal system that in practice is hetronormative, domestic violence is a condition that doesn't require any women to be involved at all so its wrong to approach it from the view that women are the primary concern, even lesbians will have legal difficulties in a similar way if their abusive female partner is not considered to be able to break the law when DV is seen as an unforgivable action only undertaken by men.

I've never heard anyone claim the crime of battery should be illegal. That law applies to everyone equally, regardless of gender.
VAWA as the name indicates is all about favoring women in cases of violence, often arresting innocent men in the process and denying men access to most shelters. We've been spending 700 million annually on VAWA and according to many studies, it has done little to curb the rates of domestic violence.

Many MRA's are libertarians or anarchists and do not want any legislation made in their favor, much more so than your average women's group. They don't see state solutions as being actual solutions. They would rather open a discussion (and/or confront people who promote these problems).
MRA's claim that there is gender symmetry in domestic violence because that is what the vast majority of the data suggests, and the more data that comes out, the more this conclusion is being reached by more and more professionals.
The reason that using the threat of violence to solve problems with violence is that it always achieves the opposite of what it ostensibly prevents. We tried to use the threat of violence to get employers to hire more pregnant women recently and the result that fewer pregnant women were hired, and this is not some aberration, it's the norm. This is a much larger question that requires some understanding of ethics, economics and political theory that I don't want to go into without first confirming that this is the kind of answer you were looking for.

There are laws that protect both. Men are just embarrassed by other men's behavior( or maybe their own) and they try to make it seem like women are as bad as them, but its untrue. 86% of women have at some time or now has been a victim if domestic violence.

Well Diva, I'm afraid you don't seem to know how VAWA actually works. Yahoo answers isn't for writing a multi-page answer. But here's an answer- VAWA is based on the Duluth model, and the power and control wheel. Each label a male as a primary aggressor. VAWA is an extremely sexist piece of legislation. It was written that way, and it's still enforced that way. Look up some news articles on it and see how many people say something like "now women are protected!" Not one mention of men because it's not meant to help men.
There are plenty of stats which show that men are often on the receiving end of terrible domestic violence from women. Why you think that's not proven is a mystery to me.
Men want equal protection under the law. Many oppose VAWA because it focuses ONLY on female victims by male abusers.

The laws may be written to favor both in theory. But in practice it lies towards the woman side.
Domestic violence was even considered as 'gender based violence'. It's what even judges called it.
Ask anyone even when the cops arrive at a DV scene, the man gets whisked and the law enforcers are always all ears to the woman's side of the story.
VAWA also rings a bell.

Yes men can be victimized as much as women. The problem is that they don't report it. Many men feel ashamed to report it in fear they will be ridiculed for being abused by women. I think 70% percent of domestic abuse is committed by women I believe i'm not for sure though. It's just it is ignored.
I think many women are abusive towards their male partners because they think he won't fight back against them because of that don't hit women back rule.

Men still can be the victims of domestic violence. Even as much as women.
It's just that society will view them as 'pu66ies' if they report it. I don't care if the MRAs use this excuse or not, but I personally believe it's true.
Please don't rely on the media, where it usually favours the woman in the relationship.
