Why are cab drivers such a miserable breed of people?

It's those little pine tree air fresheners. One of these days someone's gonna accidentally break one of those things open and pure mercury will just pour out.

Must be a big city thing? I have met a few in my little town and they were pretty nice. Someone actually recently told me a heartwarming story of how the cabbie helped them around town and didn't act annoyed by it. I remember I had to use a cab once and my driver was a darling little gray haired man that smelled like coco butter :) He stopped at Dairy Queen for me too!

If I were a better driver, I would drive a cab for you. If you let me install cameras and do a "Taxi Cab Confession" type web show.

It's a rough job. Being a cab driver, you can't appear too vulnerable or people will take advantage of you. I've had all kinds of cab drivers, even one that offered my underage friend and I alcohol while he drove (and I strongly suspect that he indulged in it as well) but no, I have never met a cab driver that acts like a good person.

Yeah I've met cab drivers of all kinds. They're much like many other semi-skilled professions - all types of people imaginable.

I think you should hire a HR professional to interface the HR matters for you. It's shocking how the pros do it - they can fire someone and make that person their happy best friend at the same time.

Don't sell your business ... all you need is some good hired help.

It's not exactly a glamorous job, driving drunks and other people around town. Most of the cabbies around here are foreign and probably have a better education than the majority of their fares. Still, manners do go a long way especially if you're counting on a tip....

Maybe you should outfit your cabs with those beaded seat cushions. You'll have the happiest cab drivers east of the Rockies!

Well probably because they have to drive people around all day, there's always traffic, and maybe cuz they're alon for most of the day so they get bored and cranky, what I guess

it's probably a defense mechanism honed over years of being vulnerable in ways that people who do not drive cabs will never understand.

my husband is honest and kind and a cab driver.

he doesn't steal, have bad manners and he smells delicious.
