Conservatives, would you agree that guns should be kept out of the mentally unstable and known criminals?

Update:

Probably a psychiatrist? There is a difference between OCD and manically sociopathy.

I think everyone would agree that guns should be kept out of the hands of criminals and the mentally unstable.

    Al Bundy, I laughed.

This is the problem with the Left's push for gun control. You are so general in your conditions that it can apply to anyone at any time.

What exactly is mentally unstable? CDC statistics say that 50% of Americans suffer from mental illness at some point in their life. What conditions do you believe to be exclusionary?

Known criminals? What does that mean ANYONE who has committed a crime? So if you were caught drinking a beer in college when you were 20 does that preclude you from having a gun? What crimes do you believe should?

If you want psychiatrists to report on any patient who has issues that violates patient confidentiality and will result in no one getting treatment out of fear of being reported.

These are complex issues and can't be solved with knee-jerk liberal reactions.

I agree that everyone who purchases a gun should be cleared through a background check. The only way to get rid of guns carried by criminals is stop and frisk which is really unconstitutional but there doesn't seem to be any other way. Then they would also have to prosecute them for having an illegal weapon. They are supposed to prosecute anyone trying to purchase a weapon who is found to be a felon. Statistics show that law is often ignored.

There are thousands of people who were prosecuted and found not guilty due to mental illness. This is a matter of record and should be included in background checks. It currently isn't. They should not be able to purchase a gun imo.

    Yes..

Making something against the law will not always stop it.. If guns were ever banned than only the bad guys would have them..Criminals prefer unarmed victims!!

Having a gun will not help all the time but being defenseless will never help..

Calling 911 and asking the bad guy to wait is not a viable option.

Better to have a gun and not need it than to need it and not have it!!!

Police do not protect you from crime, they usually just investigate the crime after it happens.

Criminals and mentally dangerous people, yes.

And I'm a Con who approves of Universal Background Checks to do that, so long as the background check system doesn't wind up giving the government a list of who owns what guns.

Well that was why the NRA and gun owners wanted the Established NICS check. It would of worked but then the Liberals said it was unfair to the mentally challenged and made the HIPA laws making it illegal to report possibly dangerous mental health patients.

If you look the present NICS check system would do both as much as is humanly possible, if allowed to work as written. WHich means the currently proposed gun law would break the current HIPA laws.

For one, maximum persons of firearms sales already have a historic past verify. there is not any gun coach loophole. although, with that suggested, I do have confidence that anybody who's a FORMER criminal and served their time, could have a similar human rights because of the fact something human beings, in the different case why the h*ll are they out of detention center?! save them locked up. here's a tip: Criminals get weapons frequently one in all 2 techniques. the 1st, they scouse borrow one. i do no longer think of there is any historic past tests on thefts. the 2d, is they purchase one off the black marketplace, better than probably from somebody who stole it. lower back, there is not any historic past verify on the black marketplace, and there not at all would be. this is unhappy that the final solutions to our countries issues could be so basic, yet liberal morons can not comprehend them...r they ignore approximately it so as that they might attack human beings like me.

Of course we do. But that doesn't mean anything if they are living with irresponsible gun owners who don't lock up or hide the weapons so unstable people can't get to them.

Who keeps the database about who is mentally ill? Who gets to decide that? How does that reconcile with health privacy laws already on the books?

criminals and known mentally unstable people are ALREADY banned from having guns but that doesn't affect the criminals at all ( see definition of criminal)
