1) Isolate y in each equation
y=3x+1 and y=x+3
2) Graph those lines
It should have two straight lines that cross each other at one point.
3) Where the lines cross is the solution
4) To check, put the x or y coordinates of the solution into the appropriate places in the equations. Solve. If the equation is true, the solution is correct.
