Is 'doing the GTL thaaaang' more important than raising your child?

Meaning gym, tanning, & laundry.

My step daughter's mother lives a life focused around this.

While I stay home every day & take care of her daughter.

Never have time for the gym, let alone tanning, and everyone else's laundry is more important than my own, so I tend to not look my best.

Is it bad of me to think that only young selfish people live this way?

I'm even younger than her. Should I promote it within my own life, for myself?

Update:

I agree with the financial stuff, but that isn't the issue.

Time management is, I guess.

And no, she isn't.

Hey boyfriend doesn't seem that great.

We bug up that last fall he got arrested for domestic assault on her.

She's had issues with diet pills, I believe.

Possibly an eating disorder.

I feel like some kind of suburban mom in comparison.

I'm a tad worried that in a way I'm JEALOUS of her lifestyle.

I think I just posted looking for an affirmation that what she is doing is wrong.

I hope I'm not jealous.

Is she single? I've noticed that a lot of (not ALL) young, single moms who have the father available to take the kids tend to pass them off often to work on man hunting.

Personally I don't care to tan, but I don't believe in being a martyr for my child. How am I supposed to give him my best, if I'm not at my best? Doesn't he deserve to have a happy, well-rounded mother?

Besides that, just because I became a mother, doesn't mean I stopped being a woman, a friend, a wife, a sister, a daughter, a person, etc. I simply added another hat to my collection.

I actually believe that it is a fault of women that they tend to put themselves on a back burner. Im not talking about in a superficial going tanning way, but in many other ways it is true. Finances for instance. It is a proven fact that women will save less money over a lifetime (as a percent of income, so income equality aside) AND even though they save less, they get a lower return (the stock market is not sexist, you pick something and it goes up or down or sideways).

It has been shown, that the reasons for this is because women will tend to raid their savings to give to other people (mostly their children) and they will invest in less risky assets over their life (which means lower returns).

At some point, putting your own needs first is putting everyone else first.
