Chronic Pain & Methadone Withdraw?
I'm the lucky guy who has had 3 failed back surgeries. Methadone was like a miracle and a curse wrapped in one little pill. It helped the pain better than anything, but I gained 50 lbs of water weight. I've been trying to detox and switch to Nucynta and Marinol, along with Gabapentine, Tizanadine, and other little helper drugs like that. If you've ever had nerve pain in both your legs, feet, and up to your middle back, then tried to come off of pain meds, feeling like your muscles are trying to crawl out of your skin, then you know a little about what I'm dealing with tonight. This is sick. Can anyone offer any pointers? I'd gone 2 days of sheer hell and finally I had to take 2.5 mgs tonight just to stop the crawling and needles in my muscles.
Also, I'm very muscular and have been working out in a pool. My muscles are so tight now that I can feel them constricting my nerves like a snake killing its prey. Is it smart to work out during this withdraw? I thought it might help, but it seems to be making things much worse. Actually, everything is like a fresh hell right now, even with the 2.5 mgs.
Any help or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated.
Sharon- Thanks so much for the great response. I just feel like dying and I did take a nibble of the methadon earlier. It's starting to get me back to right now. I also took a Colonapine(sp?) to relax and stop the fidgeting. I just think everyone going through this needs a support group. This was the only place to try and find it I could think of.
The problem becomes the chronic back and leg pain. Is being pain free worth the horrible health effects that methadone has cost? I don't know. If the nucynta and marinol doesn't work long term, then I am lost. Any advise on that situation would be appreciated too. But thanks so much.
Oh, and the second poster, tramadol is much too weak for my pain. Nucynta is apparently like a step up from that and it barely helps. I seem to always be the guinea pig for these drugs.

i have nerve damage from kidney disease. i was also on methadone for many years, it gave me back my life.
I female, weighed 120 5'8" when i started talking it, gained 50 lbs, in 2 yrs.
i switched to MS contin, it worked almost as good, and i got used to it, it far better than taking nothing.
dont try and go old turkey on this stuff, if you can help it, if you still have amethadone left, take little nibbles of it when you need to along with your other medication, it will work.
your dr, may not be giving you enough nucynta that was equal in wht you werr takingin methadone dose.
ask him to increase it alittle or give you some break thru medication.
here the thing about gabapentine, it will also make you gain weight like crazy, for me it didnt help with the nerve pain either.
i wanted as little meds in me as possible but neough to do the job, so if just mophine would work, i didnt want to take anything else, i just dont want a bunch of drugs and chemicals in my system.oi need what i need, i dont take what i dont need.
yes if you can continue to swim, while you are changin meds thats a good thing, just do what your body will let you, if it hurts dont do it, right?
also, someimts with nucynta, some stomaches dont break it down all the way, so you cant, or dont absorb all the medication, so there for your not getting as much releif as you could..
thats why a break thru medication would help too, they are not time release like the nucynta is.
good luck.
