Is it possible for a person to project their own shadow onto their own ego?

Usually the shadow is projected onto other people and those other people become the enemy. Is it possible to view your own ego as the enemy and what characteristics, behaviors, thoughts, words, etc, would manifest by demonizing one's own ego?

Using Jung's definitions:

Self- transcends ego and inheres the age-old capacities of the species. Seeks individuation.

ego- the center of consciousness. "I", "me". Responsible for continuing sense of identity.

persona- social archetype, conformity. What we portray to others to be accepted and avoid abandonment.

shadow- disowned subpersonality. Opposite of persona. Sources (1) cultural indoctrination (2) familial repression.

"The moral complex imposes severe restraints on the shadow, where it is experienced as a threat; repressed, denied or projected."

I would say, with out a complete study at hand, that all 'cults', or, in other words, groups consisting of lower cognitive capacity people (by which ever cause for their condition), regard 'ego' as an imperceptible evil thing that creates perceptible behavioral or actions defined as deviations from 'the good' norm.

''Usually the shadow is projected onto other people and those other people become the enemy. '' Yes.

A metaphorical common point or similarity with Sigmund Freud's theory of super ego and Id/Libido system conflict.

What those people are experiencing is as complicated as the super ego and Id/Libido system conflict, but their theory has no objective ego process, no subjective objection and/or is explained using notions separating 'the good' and 'the evil' as pure existential constituents.

Having said that, I would venture further to say that, no, they do not project on their ego, but their ego is perpetually vacated of activity relabeled as of 'the evil'. Whatever of possible internal experience remains, is processed through the ego as ego is properly understood, decision processes.

I have read a lot of Jung and I always got the feeling that the Shadow is disowned parts of the Personality. I don't understand what you mean by sub?

I think what you are describing could only be found in a possessed, or suicidal person because if one thinks they are the evil thing, and it's wrong, they would not want to live with it.

Projecting a shadow is an immature way to deal with your own personalites drives. It takes a lot of strength to own your shadow.

Usually the shadow shows up in their behaviour. So, for example, people who get very angry when they see other people's selfishness are sometimes very selfish themselves. If they can pretend to themselves that they are not at all selfish, then the shadow is only seen in other people.

If the pretence wears thin, it gets more complicated. Some people begin to wake up, to adjust their own attitudes and behaviour. Others decide that they are bad people and go through life with much guilt, not believing they have the power to change. In extreme cases, the personality can fracture and it almost seems that there is more than one person there. Some people, for example, behave completely different when drunk.

It has been my experience that Jung over-intellectualized people's psyche. His theories can apply to someone who has, in Piaget's terminology, attained Formal Operational thinking, the ability to reflect on one's self and entertain a myriad of possibilities, even those that do not exist. My experience is that most people do not fully attain this level. They live their lives in terms of rewards, punishments (or the anticipation of punishment), and desires. For example, in my state if it is raining you have to have your lights on, yet many people do not because it is still "daylight". Why should they have your lights on, they can see? These people do not seem to understand that you need your lights on not so that you can see, but that people can better see YOUR car. This whole complicated thing about shadow and ego is your managing your behavior based on how people see you. My contention is most people don't think that way. Most people do not worry how you will judge their behavior, but about how they look. They are superficial. You might be more cognitively developed than that, so instead you worry about how people are seeing you when they are actually more concerned with superficial aspects of themselves. All your musings are fodder for philosophical endeavors, but realize you are playing mind games for the intelligencia, and I find them amusing. But living your life this way only ties you into knots. I know.

The ego is in the mirror, so I ques you could call it a shadow.

When we judge or philosophize with the words we mindfully construe pertained to dualism, we actually tell others where we are.

Also, what we subconsciously dislike or fear about our selves we often resent or try to change in others.

If we hate it's because we hate our selves, this can be due to being spiritually subverted by the evils of this world - lies, family and societal breakdown.

Self loathing does not mean that one is projecting their shadow on their ego. The shadow can only be projected outwards.

Parapsychology says it is possible. But science has no proof for it.
