Why is conservatism so full of hatred and fear?
Conservatives (typically) are religious, which means they fear God. They fear losing their jobs in the very market for which they advocate. They fear not being able to keep their houses and general livelihoods, again, in the market they advocate.
They hate on homosexuals (I'm sorry, but not allowing homosexuals to marry, at least in the secular terms of the state, is blatant discrimination), they hate on minorities (advocating very tough border patrol, plus the fact that it was conservatives who used to hate on the African American and Asian populations), and they want to enact many religious laws that keep women from having abortions (which is a freedom women should have; it's a private matter), keep religious hospitals (which are supposed to provide appropriate medical treatments no matter what) form doing their duties as institutions of medicine, and etc.
Let's take a look on the liberal side. Liberals don't mind homosexuals and want them to have the freedom of marriage and the happiness of spending their lives together with the ones they love, they are not typically too religious, they want the government to provide help to people who need it, they welcome minorities into the country, are willing to let women do what they wish with their bodies, and make hospitals carry out their medical duties no matter what.
To me, it seems incredibly counter-intuitive that anyone would be conservative.
Just a couple of notes: I know that I'm making a straw man argument here; I can't really help that considering the fact that I have no direct person with whom I can make an argument. I just took a few conservative points and objectively analyzed them. Also, I realize that the Democrats were the ones who did not support the end of slavery and whatnot, which is why I said "liberals," not Democrats.
team, I made an objective argument. I wasn't really biased in writing this. I feel like these are legitimate observations based on conservative viewpoints. I feel that my assessment is spot on. It seems incredibly counter-intuitive that anyone would be conservative.
Liberals Love Censorship, why is it, then, that Fascism and other hierarchical monstrosities primarily from the right? Also, you apparently can''t read and don't know much about history, The Democrats used to be conservative on social issues and liberal on economic ones, so they were still social conservatives.
clean truck, please explain.
Schmuck, while it is true that I had my mind made up from the get-go, my observations are still worthy of consideration. There is a lot of hatred and fear on the right, typically.
LN, there are many financially successful liberals, and many liberals work. Otherwise, at least twenty percent of this country wouldn't be working and your precious little economy would crash.
JohnnyK, very nice ad hominem. Maybe you should come back without a logical fallacy.
Mary Jane Dark Goddess, I don't care if you're a Christian or not. If you'd read the entire argument. you would have seen that I said this was a straw man argument since I did not have a person with whom I was directly arguing, and my premise was that conservatism is full of hatred and fear, so until you give me a reason as to why my arguments are wrong, the premise stands.
Coach is back, clarification is needed.
Liberals Love Censorship, the argument isn't BS. If you knew anything about communism, you'd know that the world has never seen it (well, maybe in the anarchist Spanish era, but that didn't last long because the U.S., Germany, and Russia quickly made sure that government was restored).
I'm sorry, but I always hear conservatives whining about illegal immigrants "stealing hard-working Americans' jobs" and whatnot. My question is this: Why not grant them all amnesty and let them pay taxes, buy property, and etc. like everyone else? Not many people can even afford to come up here from Mexico because many people are so poor down there. Who are to deny them a shot at a new life? That's what America's all about.
As for conservatives who aren't religious, again, if you'd read the argument, you'd see that I was talking about typical Christian conservatives, and it was a bit of a straw man, but I was talking about typical conservative ideol
ogy.
Robby, not quite, but my argument is that there would be a lot less hate if people would see past their differences and use reason and compassion to make decisions about beliefs.
Art of peace, study up on Marxism. It focuses almost exclusively on the market and the rise of the working people. Not really any hate there, except the working class getting sick of the rich taking a huge dump on them constantly.
Me Ne Frego, it said the owner of the site didn't allow hotlinking, but I'll say that of course that liberals are not saints by any means, just that the vast majority of the time it is the right that preaches hatred and fear.
AverageJoe, I'm sorry you can't read such a simple argument.
bigmikejones, again, I mentioned that this had to be an analysis of conservative ideology and therefore a bit of a straw man.
Conservatives may believe you are held back only by your ambitions, but that doesn't mean its true. Everyone knows full well that there are many forces outside of him or herself that act on and influence his or her path. If a child is born with a mental defect, can he or she be expected to become as financially successful as a person with an IQ of 180? Of course not.
As for "traditional family values," this is nonsense sputtered by the conservatives in an attempt to keep religious laws from crumbling, and it is keeping homosexuals from being united in a way that is formally and universally recognized and, by extension, being happy in that manner.
As to your next point, that is a slippery slope fallacy, plus I personally don't care if someone marries some item or whatever. No, changing the definition of a cow to horse would be quite confusin
g and incorrect because language is supposed to be clear and understandable. As for your final point, the only "morals" I see here are oppressive ones.
Thanks for the ad hominem, by the way.
El Tecolote, thanks for the ad hominem. Please, come again any time.
ProUSA2, it states in religion that you are SUPPOSED to fear God, and also love Him, and respect Him, and all of the sudden he's sounding like North Korea. And why aren't people reading the straw man part? Jeez.
Yes, but far-left philosophy (particularly communism) says that everyone's basic needs should be met, and softer liberals tend to think that everyone has a right to have a shelter or a house. Many right-wing philosophies don't.
As to your comment on homosexuals being able to marry, I agree, most Americans do, but many don't want homosexuals to be able to marry at all, with no input from the state.
Look back on my comment to Liberals Love Censorship.
Okay, but "African American" is the politically correct term for it.
AryanBuddhist, good point, and I like Buddhism. It's a very peaceful philosophy. Anyway, liberals hate conservatives, yes, but they hate them for their ideology, not because of unjustified and irrational reasons. Liberals don't fear guns so much as they think it's common sense that they should be used with a measure of caution. They don't fear a free market; they see it for what it is: a play for power by the rich on the poor. Of course they hate Palin and Romney; they're both idiots and political rivals. The Koch brothers, again, are hated because of actions and ideology, so the hatred is not unjustified. I don't care if the race's individual choice is segregation; if a person from another race wants to join in, they have no right to refuse that person entry, but if the segregation is willing and mutual totally on both sides, it is acceptable.
You made good points, but I believe you missed the goal.

Your analysis is spot on. This is why college kids are often Liberals. These people that insult you without any real argument are probably Conservatives for cultural reasons that has nothing to do with free thinking. Conservatives are very culturally influenced, they try hard to portray themselves as Religious, Patriotic, and Masculine and see these virtues as the platform of their party rather than reason itself.

I am a conservative and you raise intresting points. first of all yes the right is worried about their livelyhood but so is the left. Lets keep in mind there are alot of rich democracts. I personally believe in equal rights for gays and for everyone. However the sanctotiy of marrige is supposed to be under god. In that The three major religons i.e( Christianity, Judisum and Moslomism) will never fully support that. I have a friend and he is a liberal but, i said equal rights but" just don't call it getting married" so he said "The should get Gay-ried" I laughed my but off. Second The rebulicans don't hate minoritys Hermain Cain came in third place in our pesidential run and had many supporters. apon the abortion issue I personally agree but abortion has been around for a while now. I'm not personally religious but
I can understand and support where their comming from it used to be a diffrent time in this country and I am as well as them trying to preseve it and not let it descend into another europe.

Conservatives (typically) are religious, which means they fear God.
In that context, Fear means respect. Kind of like you FEARED your mommy when you were three, loving each other, but knowing she'd tan your hide if you stepped out.
They fear losing their jobs in the very market for which they advocate.
Anyone who does not FEAR losing their job in this Market is an idiot. And just for the record, THIS is NOT the market for which we advocate. if You don't fear it, it is because you have learned to depend on Da gubbamint.
They fear not being able to keep their houses and general livelihoods, again, in the market they advocate.----- AGAIN, THIS is NOT the market WE advocate, AT ALL!. Axe yo mama if SHE's not afraid of losing her house! If she's not, she's on section 8.
They hate on homosexuals (I'm sorry, but not allowing homosexuals to marry, at least in the secular terms of the state, is blatant discrimination), Y-----You wanting to change the definition of a word in order to FORCE acceptaqnce of something I have every right to find unacceptable? Who is shoving who's opinion down who's throat? A gay Man or Woman has the right to marryany woman or Man who will have them. Always HAVE had that right, but I'm sorry, MARRIAGE means One man, One woman. They can be fruitier than punch. But anything else is NOT marriage.
I am sorry, but the rest of your rant is just abject ignorance!

I think you watch MSNBC news too much. You need to take time and research your theory about conservatives. Conservatives may or may not be Christians. They may or may not go to Church regularly. Most conservatives believe they should get the money they work for and keep it instead of giving it away. They believe that if you work hard enough, you can reach any goal you set for yourself up too and including becoming a CEO of your own company. Conservatives believe that everyone has the opportunity to get ahead, you only held back by your own ambitions. Conservatives are not homophobes like you say, but do believe in traditional family values. If you change the definition of marriage, so gays can marry, then what is to stop people later wanting the same rights to marry objects, or young kids or animals?? Changing the definition from a cow to a horse don't make it right does it?? As a nation, we have to have certain moral values its up to the people to push them, honor them and keep them for future generations. No, do some research before you sound off and look stupid.

There are religious people of ALL political parties, and we ALL have the same view of God. We love God. The ones that "fear" God are atheists (although they won't admit this).
Every employed American in today's market fear losing their jobs, regardless of political party...likewise our houses and livelihood, as well we should!!
Most Americans believe homosexual marriage should be left up to the STATE, and not forced upon the church or others that don't want or accept it.
Tough border patrol isn't "hating" on minorities...we have illegal aliens ffrom every country in the world comprising ALL races.
"African American" isn't a race...Not all africans are black and not all blacks are from Africa.
BLACK is a race.
Africa is a continent of 54 countries comprising all races. "African American denotes someone living in America who immigrated from, or whose ancestors immigrated from Africa. How about let's call them Black AMERICANS...how does that work for you?
Edit:
Funny how you didn't mention love or respect for God only "fear"...exactly why is that? Call the term "politically correct" if you like, but African American is NOT a race. Charlize Theron is an African American...she's not black, nor is a sizable percentage of South Africa. Egypt is part of Africa as well, its inhabitants aren't considered black or *****. There are millions of black Americans from islands such as Barbados, Jamaica, etc...they aren't African either...

You have stated the facts, the same conservatives that use to be Democrats and are Republicans today have always supported - racism, bigotry, taking away blacks rights to vote by disenfranchising them for nearly 100 years, taking away women right to choose, taking away workers right to collectively bargain, seceding from the Union and anti-American positions.
Today, extreme conservatives continue their assault on women, on voters, on workers yet conservatives protect extreme gun rights of criminals and crazies because its part of the Bill of Rights.
Conservatives are so extreme today, there is 30 conservative states signing petitions to secede from the Union again. NUT JOBS !!!

Liberals think that government ought to be able to control your life from cradle to grave. That it should be able to control what you get paid, how much medical coverage you ought to have. What car you can drive and if a free law biding citizen can own a firearm.
You want that sort of control over your life, i recommend you immigrate to North Korea.
What conservatives think is that the people ought to have the right to decide, do you find it interesting that when a state votes to prohibit gay marriage the people that support it run to a court to get the will of the people overturned?
Do you know that medical care is not free, someone has to pay for it. And don't tell me that the government foots the bill, we all know who truly does.
Every Country on the planet makes an effort to control its borders, why do you single us out for a charge of racism because we want the laws we passed to be enforced.
- Anonymous8 years ago
Well liberals hate conservatives, they fear guns, they fear a free market, they hate republican candidates like palin and romney even though they are no longer relevant, they hate the koch bros, they hate racial segregation even when it is the races individual choice (see the student organized georgia segregated proms), and let's see, I can go on but I think I made my point.
- Anonymous8 years ago
Well of course libs don't fear losing their jobs since most of them don't work
EDIT: Your entire argument is a bunch of BS. Historical monstrosities like communism are from the left. We are against ILLEGAL immigration, not minorities. A lot of us aren't religious
And why the HELL is border enforcement seen as "hating on minorities"??? Ever country in the world has it, and with good reason

The only thing I really fear is ignorance like yours. If you honestly believe one word of what you said above, you are nothing but a misinformed, blithering loon. Either that or you're 12 and you were born on a hippie commune.
