Waited till the last day to file taxes and my return was rejected.?
I had entered the wrong pin # from last year. I corrected the information and am now waiting for their acceptance but since it is now 4/16 will I have to pay a penalty for late filing?

If your return is rejected on the 15th, then you have until the 17th to correct the reject and get it accepted. If you get your acceptance today your return is still considered on time. If you are unable to file electronically, your return must be mailed by April 20 (5 days after the date of the first reject) to be considered on time. If you must mail it, you should include a copy of the original reject and a note explaining what happened.

And another hard lesson why you should NOT wait until the last day of filing and paying any owed taxes because it is very easy to make some errors when you are rushing in the last minutes of day for this purpose and time in your life.
If you were able to correct it and IF it does get ACCEPTED this time it could be possible that you would end up with out any penalty for this reason and the 2013 tax filing season.
Hope that you find the above enclosed information useful. 04/16/2013

The efile will still show the original date.
Worst case, print the rejection letter and mail it with the return within 10 days.

that may depend on IRS, they may or may not incur a penalty, just get it filed, late or not
