I'm sick... what do I have?
I had a mild sore throat for 5 days, then it went away 3 days. Last Tuesday, I had an upset stomach, then developed a dry cough, then started feeling feverish toward the evening (I don't own a thermometer, so I wasn't able to check) and having all over body-aches. I thought it would clear up in a few days.
Fast forward to today. It's worse. I'm struggling to get out of bed. My nose is runny. Sore throat is back, but it's nothing I can't handle. My cough isn't dry anymore, I can feel mucous in my throat, but am unable to cough anything up. Coughing is painful. I feel dizzy when I try to stand/sit up and am constantly nauseous. I don't think I have a fever, but I'm cold. My boyfriend struggled to warm me up this morning. The only way I could warm up was sitting in a scalding hot shower for 30 minutes.
The weirdest thing is that my face has no color. My skin is super ashy. Not being out of bed, I've been having a crime show marathon the past few days, and I swear some of the corpses have more color than I do, which is scary.
My body hurts. I feel like I got hit by a truck.
I've already missed a bunch of class, and can't afford to miss more this week, but this doesn't show any signs of clearing up by Monday.
I don't have health insurance and can't really afford to go to the clinic.
Any ideas what this is? It seems way worse than the colds I've had before. What can I do to get better?
But I don't currently have a fever, and haven't felt like I had one for 3 days.... is it still the flu?
Brett D: Did you seriously just through out a random name of some infection? NONE of the symptoms of Rheumatic Fever (FYI, you spelled it wrong!) match mine. I've never had Strep Throat, nor Scarlet Fever. I don't have a high fever, nor is my nose bleeding.
Seriously?

- nothing like visiting a doctor - which you should
- the body aches are scary - that is a classic symptom of Rhematic Fever
- I knew a lady who immigrated to Canada after the war - on the boat another lady had rhematic fever - and she died of a heart attack before they got to shore
- the bad thing about Rhematic Fever is that during the course of the infection - Rhematic Fever damages the heart valves
- so the classic treatment is complete and absolute bed rest - WITH ABSOLUTELY NO EXERTION
- So get to a doctor - and until you are better play it safe and DO ABSOLUTELY NO EXERTION - IE NO LIFTING / RUNNING ETC

well until you REALLY KNOW what it is you don't REALLY KNOW what it is forget the hairdresser Only a doctor would know for sure - - - - and notice the mayclinic says the symptoms can vary from person to person and that the different symptoms don't follow an exact prescribed order
- and I am not saying you have rheumatic fever - in fact I am NOT a doctor so I would NOT diagnose anything - in fact IF I WAS A DOCTOR I WOULD NOT EVER DIAGNOSE ON THE INTERNET OR PHONE unless I had SEEN the person for REAL in Person Flesh and Blood - Why - please read my answer concerning a psychic telling a guy " with no legs " what to do about the " pain " he feels in his " legs"
