Why don't my toddler's nails grow?

We've had custody of her most of her 2 & 1/2 year life and haven't had to trim finger or toe nails even once. Her doctor just said "interesting" when we told her about it. The nails are perfect, pink & healthy and she is not chewing on them. Why wouldn't they grow??

Perhaps she is not getting enough protein in her diet. Protein makes hair and nails grow.
