Could Jesus have been born of a virgin?

At least a billion people claim that to be true. However, which is more likely... the laws of nature were suspended, or that a bronze age, knocked-up, Jewish girl told a fib? I'm not a biologist. Is there a non-metaphysical answer to this?

Update:

Since we are made of DNA, couldn't a woman's body create the necessary male component out of the raw proteins?

I will try to keep religion out of this, as I think that everyone is entitled to their beliefs.

However, one must understand that there is something lost in translation between the original writings of the apostles and the current Bible we read today. From what I have read, apparently at the time of Christ, "virgin" could also refer to a woman that has not had a child before.

Make of that what you will, I am not trying to persuade anyone to believe a certain way or another.

According to Jewish law, hundreds if not thousands of babies are born to virgins every year and there's nothing supernatural about it.

You see, so long as a female's hymen remains intact, she is classified as a virgin according to Jewish law. This includes the possible scenario where a female has sex with a man who is poorly endowed so that he is not able to tear her hymen. Even though the female has had sex, she is still classified as a virgin, even if she becomes pregnant.

This is just another example of how the authors of the Christian Bible had minimal to no knowledge of Judaism.

I assume that rape happened quite a lot back then and she didn't want to be shunned by her family so she told a lie. I'm not a believer but if the bible took away all the magic tricks, and whatever else and said the people liked Jesus more than the government at the time because he was helpful that's something I could get behind.

Well, first of all, Jesus doesn't exist. He's just a fictional character from a story book called "bible" taken too serious by people who look for a reason in life ...

If he did indeed exist, then no, there's no way he could've been born of a virgin.

I don't know what you are trying to get at here. People believe that it was a miracle that she became pregnant without having sex. That's what the idea is. Biologically speaking, no it's not possible.
