Good fish for 36 gallon tank?
I am setting up a 36 gallon tank in my retail store as a "store pet". I'm trying to decide what kind of fish to put in it. My thoughts were to get 1-2 larger, more personable fish that customers can look forward to visiting. I am inexperienced at keeping fish, but not a complete beginner (I have had a successful community tank in the past).. I was thinking a single Oscar, a pair of Cichlids, or a few Gourami's. Something hearty and nothing too likely to fight. Any suggestions?

Hi There,
A medium sized Albino Oscar, or a Red eye Oscar can be housed in your 36 Gallon tank. They
have got some real personality and are bold fish. They catch people's attention very easily. They
often come up closer to the glass when they see people. You will be having a filter so waste should
not be a problem . However you will be able to have only him in that tank as no other fish can
survive with it for long duration.
OPTION 2
2 Pairs of multi color Discus fish. These will be great attraction to any passerby and a pet fish
hobbiest. They are elegant and dosile fish. They need some plants to hide however.
OPTION 3
Freshwater medium sized black and a albino shark. Get a sinking ship decor in the tank along with
some artificial corals and some riverside stones. People will immediately fall for the tank. All eyes
on the sharks. :)
OPTION 4
A couple of different color mid sized Cichlids. Blue, Yellow, white, Peacock
But care should be taken to mix semi aggressive with semi aggressive. Get some river sand
substrate and some good sized river rocks. These fish love exploring and digging into sand.
They will catch the attention of the passers by.
Hope these recommendations help you decide on what fish you want to house and kick start
your pet business. Wish you all the success :)

An oscar is not an option unfortunately because they are massive, produce a ton of waste, and so have a 75 gallon minimum. Keeping one in a 36 would make a lot more work for you, and create a stinky turn off for customers if maintenance slips.
Instead, I would really recommend a pair of fancy goldfish. They do grow 6-8 inches (in body) and their funny faces and behavior makes them very personable.
