What do you folks think is a better position to take: compassion from a place of altruism?

Or compassion based on supporting a religious doctrine? Or do you believe the compassionate act alone is all that matters?

To the recipient of the compassion, the act is what matters. To the observer evaluating the character of the actor, the motivation is what matters, and a genuine desire to help is more virtuous than helping out of obedience.

    Compassion alone is what matters.

Some require the rewards of religion while others that 'it could be them', but the truth of the matter is that compassion is natural.

So is competition for that matter, consider that people will compete for no other reason than to 'win', because it is what we do. Does the first part make sense in terms of this example?

I think it's just the compassion that matters.
