If the Bible were true, wouldn't more than 33% of scientists say they believe in God?

It is illegal for scientists to lie.

Update:

oh - right! you guys want stuff cited:

Update 2:

Of course it's illegal for a scientist to lie. A lying scientist would be no better than a preacher.

In 1997, the science journal Nature reported that 40 percent of scientists in the U.S. believed in a personal God—the same amount as had believed eighty years prior. However, when those results were filtered to include only members of the National Academy of Sciences, the number dropped to 10 percent. A Pew survey taken in 2009 records that 33 percent of scientists believe in God and another 18 percent in a higher power, compared to 94 percent of the general public. On the list of long-ago scientists who believed in God are Galileo, Descartes, Pascal, and Newton; more modern names have been added, such as Lord Kelvin, Max Planck, and Francis Collins.

So, to say that scientists don't believe in God is a gross generalization. However, it is true that there are fewer believers in God among professionals in the scientific community than among the general public. Why?

For some scientists, atheism is a matter of faith, not of evidence. Hungarian biologist George Klein wrote to a Christian colleague, "I am indeed an atheist. My attitude is not based on science but rather on faith, just as you have your faith. The absence of a creator, the nonexistence of God is my childhood faith, my adult belief, unshakable and holy."

"It is illegal for scientists to lie." What country do you live in? It's certainly not illegal where I live (the U.S.).

    .

EDIT: From the article "18% believe in a universal spirit or higher power." I'm not a lettered scientist (well, my degree has the word 'science' in it, but that doesn't count), and in the past I would have answered 'yes' to this question, because I *wanted* it to be true, and not because I sincerely believed it. Now, in my older years, I recognize that honesty is the most valuable thing I now have, and I have to admit that I don't really believe even in that.

    .

And to answer your question: If the Bible were true AND THAT COULD BE DEMONSTRATED, then I certainly agree that a far greater percentage of scientists would feel compelled to believe in god. That doesn't account for the possibility that the Bible is true but we can't demonstrate or be convinced of that, and would then have the current numbers we see now, though the numbers would be pretty much the same if it weren't true.

    .

My longstanding belief is that while some sections of the Bible probably are true, the vast majority is not, and none of the critical claims of the supernatural are. I can't speak for scientists, though.

Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one.

Man kinds greatest weakness is suggestibility with the propensity to associate and become identified.

People who view/pigeon hole themselves as Atheists, Creationists, Theists, and Agnosticist's ECT, may have allowed the ego to create this personal pigeon hole.

(This is also similar to being identified with the paradigmatic titles of officialdom)

Just as the word race or ethnic which is subjectively derived, a contemporary cultural construct, an adjunct, or what is known in Hinduism as an Upadhi (The concept of adventitious limiting conditions), which can also be used to divide the minds of formatory thinkers. People also allow empirically derived scientific discoveries to circumscribe the mind and beliefs. Also lies obfuscate, as even those whom sound plausible can sound veracious.

Subjectivism > the doctrine that all knowledge is limited to experiences by the self, and that transcendent knowledge is impossible (Shuts the door on God)???

Scientists have their 'belief', just like everyone else. They will follow that

    at their core.

Some scientists HAVE turned to God, and it must have been a shock.

Have you seen C.S. Lewis conversion? It was hard for him because he

was a strong atheist. And even Einstein became a theist towards the end

of his life. The more he studied, the more he saw that there was a creator.

Hubble showed him that the universe had a beginning, and Einstein had

to see there was a 'Designer'.

The more qualified the scientist, the smaller your percentage gets. In the Academy of Sciences, it's only about 9%.

I think it is less than that...

at least scientist that are taken seriously.

And yet millions and billions upon millions of scientists are lying everyday.
