Can facebook messages be found?

I have a situation where my niece said some things on facebook messages to me that I now need to copy so I can show the judge. I typed in her name and it is empty, the messages are all gone for all the months we messaged back and forth,--- except for the last one I sent her saying I needed to inspect my Mobile Home. Is this hopeless or is there a place I can find them if she deleted them and how did she do that?

Update:

Well, you are right about her deleting that stuff, she knew she had said she was moving out and that she would not pay my asking price to buy the place. Guilty is guilty for sure. I checked archives and found nothing there. will keep looking, she never had my password and it was the private messages back and forth every time.

Update 2:

Seems like she deleted her whole account on facebook, would that have erased all that information I needed?. She took computer classes in college.

she would only have been able to delete them if she had access to your account

they might still be in your archive folder tho, did you look there?

i assume that by using the word "messages" you mean actual private messages, and not comments left on your wall, because she can delete her own comments from anywhere, including your wall

in the worst case scenario, if you are in a court battle, the court can subpoena anything that was done by a person, but they will have to contact facebook to do so, not you
