Pain in right hamstring after using toilet?

After taking a dump I tend to have a dead leg. My right leg. No I do not spend long on the toilet, sometimes just 2 mins. When I get up I have a serious dead leg. The dead leg used to go away in a hour but now its taking half a day to go. The deadness feels like it could be on the verge of a really bad hamstring cramp but it has not happened.

Does anyone else have this? I can not find anything about it on the net and my doctor has never heard of it before.

Any help or information would be grateful. Thank you.

hi James. i have exactly the same problem. i put mine down to a bad lower back from a car accident and tightened muscles cutting off the blood supply to my leg. sometimes i get dreadful pain as well and can't use or move the leg for 20 minutes afterwards. i blame my tightened muscles again and slipped discs for this.

    things to try:

if you are tall, get a raised toilet seat. make sure your feet still touch the floor properly or the problem will be made worse

use stool softeners and eat more fruit so that you don't have to bear down so much. the amount of pressure you exert on the veins and arteries in your leg is huge if you have to strain to go.

ask your GP to refer you for an ultrasound of the blood vessels in that leg just in case they are narrowed.

see a chiropractor about your back. as the dead leg is lasting half a day it has to be compression of your sciatic nerve involved.

this is why in many countries they have squat toilets.

you could try a haemorrhoid ring (or similar) to sit on when you toilet. it's essentially an inflated cushion to sit on with a hole in the middle where your anus is. it could theoretically reduce pressure on your lower back/leg.

best of luck. best wishes, A x
