Computer Monitor May Be Going Out?

My monitor I have had for 5 years may be going out. It has recently developed small. flashing, red squares all over the screen. Sometimes there are a lot of them, other times there are only a few dozen. I have downloaded updated drivers for the monitor and my video card and it didn't help. Is it my monitor or video card?

Flashing red squares sound more like a video card problem to me, though, as noted, they could be a monitor issue too. You could try running Furmark from under the sources and seeing if that changes it or makes it crash, but nothing is guaranteed there and you will be generating a lot of heat on the card.

The best option would be to hook up another monitor, or alternatively to use your current monitor on another computer. If this option is available to you, give it a shot and see what happens.
