Should I support a cause I don't believe in?

I have a group of friends who are all Christian (non-denominational, fundamentalist type Christian). We decided to have a bake sale for charity. I thought we were gonna donate the money to Africa or something, but they emailed out the flyer and it's to some "Gospel mission."

The mission's website says that they believe:

-In the absolute (and ONLY) authority of the bible

-That ONLY Christians can go to heaven.

I'm Catholic. I don't believe either of these things.

Should I participate in the bake sake? It will be fun and part of the money is going to our group too. But I don't believe these things and don't agree with what the gospel mission does.

That's a hard one. If you tell your friends the truth then they'll be offended that you're criticising their beliefs. If I were in your place I would just make up some lie about why I couldn't be there, as long as it were a one off. If this happens a lot and you keep making excuses then it would be obvious you just didn't want to do it and you might as well tell the truth.

That is a very tough decision Linley .

Maybe you can talk to the person that is the head of your bake sale and let them know that you support your group but that you don't support the fund that the group wwill be splitting the funds with. It could be that you can participate in an other way. If your not satisfied with that, then you should opt out.

Again, it is a tough decision.

Use your best judgement and be happy with that.

    Good Luck dear girl.

You should participate, and here's why. (Besides that a Bake Sale is also for the Bake Sale participants and is a fellowship activity. What's good for the church members is good for the rest of society, right? (smiles)

The reason thou shalt not judge those missionaries who may have that rather divisive credo, and go ahead and help your group and theirs' is...

They probably are just family people too, and don't go out of their way to accost people with warnings of fire and brimstone, and have Jewish and Asian neighbors who they're friendly with, and atheist family members and children or whatever, it's all just a simple heading to their "mission" and I'm sure they're just like you, only different in some ways, and never judge people by religion or politics.

It's their personal good character that counts.

    Hope this helped.

    1. I think it's fine to bow out of this bake sale and to tell your friends that you can't support an organization that is so anti-Biblical and anti-Christian in their attitude toward others.

    2. You might consider coming up with a charity that you ALL can support - or better yet, a list of charities - and telling your friends that for the next bake sale, the group should pick one that reflects ALL your beliefs instead of just those of a few members.

I would participate. Use the event and your life as a platform for your spirituality. Christianity Today the magazine started by Bill Graham found that most people who changed religions did so because a friend or family member they knew lived a lifestyle they wanted to live. Use your life as an example to others. It's the Christian thing to do in general.

HAHA!!! Religions only god is the tax free money they get for conning each and every person to tithe their hard earned money to a hoax!!! Why do you suppose that when you ask if god is real their only answer is "you've got to have faith, child"??? And why is it said to be blasphemy to question a religion about the reality of any god??? Because then they would lose any tithes that they already conned a person into giving, which is the real sin!!! If any one of the thousands of man made up gods were true we would not need to read about it in any man made up book or need to have any pretend fake belief of faith to know it!! It would be in each and every one of our faces 24/7 letting us know it is real and not some con!!! Come on people wake up you are being conned!!! The signs are all there can't you see them??? I am only trying to help you out of this hoax i am not asking for anything in return i am not running for any political office so what would be my reason other than to wake you people up!!! Or you can continue on your blind path and just have faith and continue inculcating yourself by repeating the rosary many times a day and give away your hard earned money with no help ever coming even after you die, then it will be too late the con men will already be rich off of your hard earned money !!! Your choice!!! HAVE A GREAT DAY!!!

whilst its superb to be supported in any place, i do no longer discover it mandatory. If i believe a controversy then to me this is all i elect. My concepts dictate maximum of my perspectives. those are no longer negotiable. If asked my opinion or if attempting to coach a ingredient i'm going to logically and now and back quite passionatly communicate my peace . If those around me do no longer agree thats wonderful I clarify my place i do no longer elect others to validate my ideals nor take any reason this is mine. i believe all of us walk on my own we basically meet others alongside the way. i think of that maximum people who're afraid to stand on my own have not got the confirm of their ideals or the fortitude of their man or woman to instruction manual so they have a tendency to stay with the team.

I wouldn't do it if I were put in a similar situation, I couldn't be mentally unfaithful to myself like that. If you don't believe in it don't do it, or else its like your selling out, contradicting your own soul.

No. Catholics aren't Christians? Tommy and Dave need to stop.

No. You'd be like a hypocrite otherwise.
