Spanish slang questions?
I take Spanish in school, but I love it a lot and school is definitely not the reason I care about it. I want to become fluent in it someday, but right now I'm more like at an intermediate level. The Internet is super helpful, but some things like slang are so hard to find out! This isn't for homework, it's because I just really want to know.
How do you say "wait" in Spanish? I know the verb is esperar, but I don't mean like waiting in lin,e I mean like kind of slangish, "wait, what did you say?" kind of way. Would it be "Espera" anyway? Or do people not say this in Spanish?
How do you say "cool"? I have done so much research on this and I know it varies from country to country, but aren't there any universal words? I would say genial generally, but this can't be the only way.
Do people speaking Spanish have any word they say like "like" in English? Not gustar/querer, I mean like in the same way people do when they're talking quickly in English, where they say things like "I went to the store, like, for apples and, like, bananas". I have a huge problem with this in English I need to get rid of, but I'm sure if Spanish people do have a word like this it makes you sound a million times more fluent and like a native speaker.
Thank you so much! Sometimes learning Spanish feels like my life =D
1 AnswerLanguages6 years agoTaking Pre-Calculus over the summer?
I'm a freshman in high school and I'm currently taking Algebra II, which is really the most advanced you can be in math in schools (I don't think it's just my district). This summer, I really want to take Pre-Calculus so I can do Calculus AB, BC, and Statistics before completing high school. Also, I just feel like if I have the ability I should do this. I'm really good at math and I am always wanting to be more academically advanced (somewhat obsessively :D).
I might do the CTY individually paced class ( http://cty.jhu.edu/summer/enrolled/mathsequence.ht... ) but I'm not sure this is possible because none of the courses are directly Pre-Calculus and that's whst my school calls our course (Math Analysis/Pre-Calc). I know this is really complicated because this question is like a few combined. Here they are most basically!:
1. Does the CTY class work for pre-calculus and if so, which one is it that counts as it?
2. Are there any other ways to take pre-calculus over the summer? Summer school isn't an option because it's not offered and one near me is 6 weeks of class....
3. Do you think it is a good idea to do this and skip pre-calculus?
If anyone answers this thank you so much! My BFFL is really concerned because she doesn't want to lose the chance to be in the same math and might do this too. She's never tested for CTY and is afraid to even though she would get in. This is a hard choice and I'm super confused but trying to figure this out.
Thank you!! =)
1 AnswerPrimary & Secondary Education6 years agoPoll: Do these cookies sound yummy or disgusting?
My family's oven is broken, but I have to bring cookies for a Halloween party in homeroom on Thursday. I really want to make cookies, so I was brainstorming ideas for no-bake ones, and I thought of making vegan cookie dough (no eggs/salmonella!), putting pumpkin pie filling in between two pieces of the dough, and then pinching it together so it makes a little cookie. (if you're having trouble picturing it, think of like an Uncrustables Sandwich except with raw sugar cookie dough and pumpkin inside, or even like a piece of ravioli made of sugar cookie dough and filled with pumpkin)
I told my mom this and she said this sounded disgusting, and she asked some of her friends she was with and they said it sounded gross too. But I think it sounds good and it seems like a good idea....!
So question is: Do you think that these cookies sound yummy or disgusting?
12 AnswersPolls & Surveys7 years agoMy dad insults my being a vegetarian?
I became a vegetarian maybe six months ago or so, for multiple reasons. I don't like eating animals, and I also have never been very fond of meat, so I decided it would just be best for me.
Being a vegetarian hasn't been hard at all as I never really ate much meat, and it hasn't been a big deal. Obviously nobody should care or does–except for my dad.
I can't say he is obsessed with it or anything, but my dad has constantly made fun of my being a vegetarian ever since I did. Usually he's just kidding and makes jokes like "Linley would love a hamburger" and stuff like that, but he can also be mean too.
For example, my mom bought me vegetable burritos and him chicken burritos today. He was about to eat my vegetable burritos tonight and I stopped him and told him he had chicken burritos. He got really mad angrily got the chicken burritos. He was hungry so I tried to apologize and say I just didn't think he knew about his chicken burritos, but he got mad like I was controlling what he could and couldn't eat. Then I said I just didn't want him eating mine because I couldn't eat his, and he yelled at me that I COULD eat his and I just chose not to, like I'm just gonna stop being a vegetarian.
He constantly is saying this, like I CAN eat meat whenever I say I can't have something. He is usually joking but there are times when he is cruel about my being a vegetarian and I am sick of it! How can I get him to stop being mean and understand this isn't stupid?
10 AnswersFamily7 years agoIs Joey Graceffa OFFICIALLY gay?
I don't mean your personal opinion (or even YES OF COURSE HE IS DUH when it really IS your personal opinion). I keep googling it but I only find people saying that they think he is, but I don't know what to believe because everyone is just saying what they think.
So really, what I'm asking, has Joey Graceffa officially come out? If you feel the need to ALSO say your personal opinion with your answer (haha I know what it's like to want to make your opinion known), you can, but please tell me it's your opinion.
Note: I don't care if he is or he isn't! I totally support gay rights, don't say I'm anti-gay people or anything because I am not!
If you want to know why I'm asking, I am just curious! On YouTube people said that he had actually come out but I can't find it anywhere.
8 AnswersCelebrities7 years agoMy sister is 17 and still throws tantrums?
I'm 14, she's 17. And fine, she is kind of messed up in a lot of areas. She is extremely, extremely immature about most things. She doesn't act like she's 17. But one of the most immature things she does is she throws tantrums, and I am sick of it!
If someone says one thing she takes as rude, or my dad asks her to do a small chore (like cleaning up her OWN mess or helping cleaning OUR bathroom), she acts like it is going to kill her and she runs into her room, shuts the door, and throws a huge tantrum.
I mean like yelling, SCREAMING "I HATE DAD, I HATE MOM, LINLEY YOU'RE SO STUPID, WHY CAN'T YOU MOVE OUT, NO ONE LOVES YOU, F**K YOU, DIE IN HELL!!" near the window where the neighbors and anyone in our state can hear her. She won't shut up no matter what anyone says, no matter how nicely.
Her screaming upsets all of us, plus I am so worried that literally one day a neighbor is going to call the police, she is so loud. She makes it sound like someone is abusing her or something, but like today it was just because my dad asked her to clean up something before he installed her computer game. My mom gets worried about the same thing, and also it stresses her so much and she cries and fights with my dad.
My sister already causes so many of the problems in our house, and I'm sick of that, but I am so sick of her tantrums. They just kill all of us. Please, how do I get her to stop? Nothing anyone says will because she is so, so selfish. What am I supposed to do?
6 AnswersFamily7 years agoWhat is a good mile time?
So we ran the mile in PE class and I ran it in 7 minutes and 15 seconds. I was second in the girls in my class but I think fourth in the class overall.
I'm in eighth grade (14) and haven't trained at all, so I think it might be an okay time but I'm not sure! Is it okay? Obviously it's fairly slow and not prize-winning in any way but I at least don't feel horrible about it. What is a good mile time?
BQ: We also, on another day, ran a course for fourteen minutes and then said how long we went for. In fourteen minutes I ran 1.625 miles (1.5 miles + 1/8 mile). I was second in the class. Is that good?
BBQ: On yet another day, we did the pacer (if you know what that is), and I got 81. I feel the most horrid about this because I know that basically sucks. I don't know what I was in the class. But how is that?
Lol, yes, this whole question is me wanting to confirm my insecurities..... I wish I was faster and had more endurance! Who doesn't? I want a mile time of like 5 minutes, so until that happens.....yeah :(
Thanks!
4 AnswersRunning7 years agoAccelerated Reader help?
At my middle school we do Accelerated Reader, but all of the books that I like to read and most people read (The Hunger Games, teen fiction, etc) are like level 4 or 5. I honestly find this kind of sad, but all the same I don't want to read those books and take the tests on them because I want my level to be at or above my level (grade 8).
What books can I read that have a high level, but aren't like War and Peace (which I tried). I'm supposed to get 34 points, and I can read fairly well, but books like that just won't work. Are there any modern, enjoyable books that have a level of 8 or higher? At least almost that high?
2 AnswersPrimary & Secondary Education8 years agoHow rare IS the Gold 5S right now?
So on September 20, I rushed home from school to find that all the Gold iPhone 5Ss were backordered until October. I researched and realized it was all over the news and the huge supply problem and everything. My dad placed my phone on order that evening through T-Mobile but I knew it'd be a long time before I got it. On Monday, he found out there had been a charging issue and we had to reorder the phone, so I was sadly positive it wouldn't come until like November :D
It came yesterday and I'm so happy! I didn't think much of it until I got on the news again and found out there's STILL a supply problem.....? I didn't order it ahead of most people I don't think, because of the Monday delay. Yet I'm right here with a 64GB Gold iPhone 5S, apparently the hardest to find one of them all.
Haha this definitely makes me feel special in a way, but also I'm just confused and very interested in what's going on! How big is the supply problem still? I've noticed I've seen no gold 5Ss about and except in the Apple Store all other network shops, etc are out of them and only have space grey or silver. Honestly yeah, just explain this to me?
1 AnswerCell Phones & Plans8 years agoAm I changing my fingerprints?
I have a terrible habit where I bite my fingers (like bting your nails except I literally bite the skin off, yes it's nasty) and like eat it. I know it sounds disgusting! But I do, and while usually it doesn't get really bad, sometimes I bite it so much that the flesh you can see is red (like through 4 or 5 layers of skin).
It always heals of course, and I am trying to stop. But I'm wondering, if I truly bite off layers of my skin, when it heals does it come back the same fingerprint? I'm really scared that if my fingerprint is ever taken it will show up as like "not a real person" or something!
3 AnswersLaw Enforcement & Police8 years agoWhat is the best name?
I'm writing a story about a girl in the DRC (Democratic Republic of Congo) and I'm really obsessed with names, it has to have a good meaning, nickname, and sound right, and it has to have a good origin. Because Congolese people speak French, I looked up French names. These are the names I can't decide between:
-Nicolette (means Victory of the People)
-Noelle (means Day of Birth)
-Ciel (it just means sky in French)
So basically, the plot is about a girl in the DRC who has been taught to be really strong and not love or care for anyone (no disrespect to the DRC, it just happens to be set there). I wanted her name to reflect her loving people anyway, and I know these don't really.
-So which name do you like best, first?
-What is a good name (French or Congolese) that means like love, wanting to grow, etc?
-And BQ: What are good nicknames for Nicolette?
10 AnswersBaby Names8 years agoCan you show camisole straps at school?
My school dress code rules against showing bra straps and bras, which I assume means like off the shoulder tops with bras and cutout shirts and stuff.
But I was wondering if it would be in the dress code to wear like an off-the-shoulder top type thing with a cami? I have a really small chest so when I wear camis I don't wear bras, just camis with built in bras. Since they would be camisole straps and not bra straps would that be in the dress code?
It also says no spaghetti straps on shirts, but it's not really my shirt if I'm wearing something over it right? Btw it's middle school.
3 AnswersFashion & Accessories8 years agoWhat to buy for school?
I'm going into eighth grade and I've been homeschooled my whole life so I've never been to school (obviously lol). What clothes should I buy for school? I have some t-shirts and jeans and yoga pants and like camis and sweaters and stuff, but not that much.
Basically, how many shirts and stuff do I need for school, and what should I buy? And what kind of backpack should I use, just a normal one? And where should I shop (I love Pink, but I can only get stuff from the sale rack mostly. I also like Kohls and I'm okay with Aéro though my sister hates it so it's like okay)?
Thanks! =)
2 AnswersFashion & Accessories8 years agoHow to pass the time until Christmastime?
I hate summer but I love winter, and I am SO excited for Christmas! I watch Christmas movies all the time and listen to Christmas music, but it still isn't the same as Christmastime.
Plus, at Christmastime I'm going to Disney so I'm so excited! But mostly I'm just excited for decor at the mall, Christmas music on the radio, cold weather, Christmas events, and of course, Christmas and Santa Claus and everything! How can I pass the time until Christmastime? My heart is like broken because it's so far away!
PS: I'm 13, I'm not a child!
3 AnswersChristmas8 years agoDoes anyone else despise summer?
Everyone I know thinks I'm weird, but I HATE summer. Hot weather is the worst! Who wants to sweat and be hot? Everyone I know is like "Yay, summer!" But I think that's so stupid. WHY?????
I adore winter and snow and rain and cold. I prefer being outside in pouring rain then in 80 degree weather (who wants to be in 80 degree weather? Or worse, 100?!). Then I know people who somehow think they like cold weather and say their favourite temp is like 70? No. That's not cold, that's hot!
My favourite temp is probably 40, but I love it when it snows and stuff so the 20s and 30s are awesome too. When I grow up, I want to work in a station in Antarctica.
I just don't get why people like summer! Bugs, picnics, the Fourth of July (not bding in patriotic, I just hate parades and stuff), parades, all that stuff is horrid, and the heat just makes it worse. I may seem bitter, but I can't even sleep because it's like 75 outside and I'm baking! Does anyone else despise summer with all their heart? Plus, I hate sunscreen, since it makes me feel all greasy! And sunburn. And EVERY STUPID THING about summer!! (Sorry, meltdown moment... :p)
So yeah, pretty much, why do people like summer? And does anybody else hate it too?
9 AnswersPolls & Surveys8 years agoShould I support a cause I don't believe in?
I have a group of friends who are all Christian (non-denominational, fundamentalist type Christian). We decided to have a bake sale for charity. I thought we were gonna donate the money to Africa or something, but they emailed out the flyer and it's to some "Gospel mission."
The mission's website says that they believe:
-In the absolute (and ONLY) authority of the bible
-That ONLY Christians can go to heaven.
I'm Catholic. I don't believe either of these things.
Should I participate in the bake sake? It will be fun and part of the money is going to our group too. But I don't believe these things and don't agree with what the gospel mission does.
13 AnswersReligion & Spirituality8 years agoMy mom is so super embarrassing?
I'm 13. Please don't say this is "normal" or anything, because my mom is definitely way worse then my friend's moms. I notice them do weird stuff, but never to the extreme point of my mom.
First, she has no conversation filter. If we're talking about something in the car (like about someone, or about drinking or something not appropriate), she will continue to talk about it as we walk through the parking lot, often loudly.
And whenever we're talking to anyone she does the weirdest stuff. She always hits me on the head (not hard, just playfully) and then makes a joke about me, often things that I don't need to discuss with other people (like I am homeschooled and I recently told her I want to go to school, so when we were talking to one of our homeschool friends as we were leaving, she hit me on the head and was like "Well, of course we don't know what LINLEY'S dong next year."
Also, her head-hitting thing continues. Whenever I am talking to one of my friends (even guys!) and it's time to go, she comes up to me and tells me it's time and then she "hits" (usually she just mimes it) my friend and is like "Linley's got to get home and do HOMEWORK." Always, something about me. Also, it's usually not true, like I actually don't have to do homework.
And she jokes way too much, everywhere. Like we can be talking to the doctor or one of my teachers, and she jokes about me (like the homework thing again, or something else generally not true). The person never laughs, yet she continues to joke. Later, when I tell her she shouldn't have done that, she is just like "I'm very good in professional situations." Even though the people DON'T EVEN LAUGH!
In church, when we say the eucharistic prayer (I'm Catholic) and we kneel, you're supposed to like put your hands together like your praying or just hold the back of the bench (the kneelers come out of the bench in front of you), but she doesn't. She puts her hand on her chin and stares into space like she's in a catatonic state or something.
Also in church, when we have announcements at the end of the mass, she talks to me loudly about them. Like the priest will say "and on Saturday we have our annual crab feed" and then she'll look at me and say (not whisper, SAY) "Are we gonna go to that?" And when the priest makes jokes or asks questions (not often, but sometimes), she'll yell out her answer when everyone else just mutters it.
The problem is, whenever I tell her not to do something, she gets really mad and says it's "just my age" and to stop "reprimanding" her. I cannot handle even being around her anymore, she is SO embarrassing. That is only a little of what she does. The worst part honestly is the jokes about me and the hitting on the head. And that the jokes are never true. What am I supposed to do? She won't listen to me, but I am so embarrassed to be around her.
PS: She also talks about stuff she doesn't know anything about, and asks the stupidest questions. Like I'll come out of my public speaking class, and she'll be like "So, did you give a speech today?" even though she KNOWS I didn't, because I didn't WRITE one and I've explained to her FIFTY MILLION TIMES that you SIGN UP for speeches! No matter how many times I tell her, she asks the most ridiculous questions.
4 AnswersFamily8 years agoI feel sl***y after posting pictures on Facebook?
Me and my sister (I'm 13 she's 16) took a bunch of photos today. I was wearing short shorts and a sweater type thing over a tank top, she was wearing a dress slightly above the knee, a jean jacket, and cowboy boots.
They aren't sl**ty poses, but they showed my legs and her boots. We're just smiling, but we feel horrible. Nobody has said they're slutty, but were just afraid of what people might think.
Have you ever posted pictures wearing stuff like that? We are homeschooled so some of our friends are quite prudish, but others post stuff just as bad. Do the outfits sound sl*tty? Please help!!!
6 AnswersFriends8 years agoIs this bikini appropriate for my age?
I'm 13. I started wearing a bikini last summer when I was 12. I found this bikini on Victoria's Secret (please don't stereotype, not all their stuff is bad), and I want to know if it's appropriate for me. I want it in the white colour with yellow flowers.

Do you think it's cute (remember, the white with yellow flowers colour)? And is it appropriate?
5 AnswersFashion & Accessories8 years agoShould I buy all the Pretty Little Liars books?
I have read the first three and LOVE them! I saw the TV show first and I watch that all the time (clips and episodes on Netflix and whatever I can get ahold of, now that the show is up until June 11). I am 13 and know everything already (before I thought I would read them I spoiled it all for myself). They are A-mazing (I just had to....)!
I want to buy all of them, but it's $100 from Amazon (approximately, with the booksets and all fourteen books including Pretty Little Secrets and Ali's Pretty Little Lies). That is a lot if money, as I only have like $500.
Should I buy them? I can get them from the library but I love having books where I can read them whenever and I reread all my books all time (too much according to my mom, I never read new stuff). Do you reread your PLL books? Just should I buy them?
Thanks!
