Is Facebook a good way to connect with friends?

I want to see your opinions.

As for me, I would say yes and no. It is much easier to organize and see your friends online. Chatting online with them is equivalent to texting on your phone. There are other social networks besides Facebook, but it is definitely the most popular way to contact friends, family, etc. Though, it'd be more beneficial to contact your friends by phone and talking to them. Meeting up with them would be better but of course it takes time.

in this world where everybody wants things "Now", people can no longer wait to talk to their friends. now they talk to them during times that they probably have better things to do, like at work, while driving, during a funeral, and even while someone is talking to them!

add to that the fact that little kids now want to be on it, which COMPLETELY counteracts the "Don't talk to strangers" we all got when we were kids.

now, i am not against people having a Facebook page, to let people know what's happening, what interests them, and to share ideas, but people will mold their very LIVES around updating their Facebook page, and not realize what is more important is what's happening IRL at the time.

how would you like it if your doctor was updating his Facebook while operating on you?

or maybe that frycook was taking his time making your chicken, and was distracted because he just received a Facebook notification that an old friend wanted to "Friend" him, leading to you getting food poisoning?

or how about trying to spend some time with an old friend you don't see often, and he is busy chatting with someone else (really makes you feel special, eh?)?

i have witnessed each and every one of these things, and it has pushed me to the point where i no longer use Facebook. when i tell people i "don't have a Facebook", they look at me like i just grew a third eye. i AM the "tech guy" after all. but it has simply turned my stomach, and kept me from wanting to use it.

i think that Facebook can be useful, when used properly. but doing it via mobile devices while "working", or when you should be focusing on more pressing issues (like the road, you friends IN FRONT OF YOU, or even your patient), then it can be harmful.

connect all you like, but do it responsibly. don't be "that guy"...
