Which day next week do you predict Obama’s shrunken workforce & stalled economy will top 100 million jobs lost?

When the next Department of Labor nationwide count of registrants for unemployment who’ve suffered job losses is released, the cumulative total since January 24, 2009 will be approximately 99.9 million. The numbers are made up of strictly new claims, or what are termed first time claimants, on the DOL’s Employment and Training Administration data released each Thursday morning. Since the ETA doesn’t summarize data, other than the total quarterly employers’ payroll record figure, I’ve done that with comprehensive charts of each of the past two Presidents’ real counts to contrast questionable BLS data calculated and statistically manipulated in Seasonally Adjusted counts using modest survey results.

With roughly 30 million newly come-of-age young Americans, legal immigrants and migrants seeking jobs to support their role as hopeful, determined young adults needing income to become independent during Obama’s first term, the latest quarterly count of DOL recognized jobs from payroll data has returned somewhat from the 8.3 million lost under Obama from 2009 through the summer of 2011. It’s slowly returned to 4.67 fewer jobs than were in the economy when Obama took Office, according to ETA counts for April this year. The official workforce count from ETA records Bush handed over to Obama in January 2009 was 133,886,830. After bottoming out at 125,560,066 through April 2, 2011, then remaining flat with just 12,595 jobs added during the second calendar quarter before a marginal three-month increase of 234,728 for the third quarter to reach 125,807,389 through October 1, 2011, the nationwide workforce count remained almost 8.1 million jobs down from the numbers Obama inherited from President Bush 11 quarters into the Obama Presidency.

On the first Saturday of April this year, beginning the 18th calendar quarter of the Obama Presidency, the ETA workforce count from nationwide employers’ payroll records improved to 129,204,324. The 590,411 increase for the first three months of the year averaged just over 196,000 monthly, which slightly bettered the 166,600 average monthly increase in jobs during Obama’s final 18 months to enter the new year and a second term in Office 5.27 million jobs down at 128,613,913.

Economists have frequently argued about where in the range from 150,000 to more than 200,000 new jobs added to the economy adequately provides employment for new entrants to the workforce. I’ll address that later with data from multiple government sources, most notably the Digest of Education Statistics that keeps careful count of America’s school-age population, to show a rate suggesting 200,000 is still insufficient to provide jobs for the newcomers recognizable to the government.

Last Friday, there was rejoicing over BLS survey-based estimates suggesting 165,000 jobs were added to the economy during the month of April, but the best question might be how many of the 100 million who will have lost jobs under this Administration next week have returned to work with numbers not quite reaching the rate of ready and willing newcomers trying to find work.

Please offer your prediction for which day next week will officially top 100 million jobs lost under Obama (guesswork alone gives a 1 in 5 chance), and the more challenging math question I’d like to ask along with that, is how many of the 100 million who have lost jobs do you think have returned to work?

By paging down, readers will find 2012-2013 ETA statistics on the linked page, while full Obama Presidency ETA counts across 217 weeks in Office, to date, can be found under the adjacent Real Unemployment tab. The commentary was written and posted on Tax Day, April 15th, 2013, but the summary chart of Americans who’ve filed for unemployment after losing jobs is current. Counts are posted through Saturday each week, with next Thursday’s release for data through Saturday May 11th about to show within a few thousand of 99.9 million jobs lost under Obama.

I'll predict Tuesday is the day this Administration goes above 100 million Americans separated from jobs and income. Your point and chart of the data shows today's soon to be released figure will mean somewhere between 90,000 and 110,000 workers who file unemployment claims this week will vault Obama's middle-class purge above 100 million who've lost income, homes, dignity and hope after falling prey to the President's failed policies. The ETA figures appear to show the economy is shedding about 65,000 to 75,000 jobs daily in recent weeks, so the math says Tuesday is the day that tops 100 million filers for unemployment after individuals lost jobs since January 2009.

This Administration is an utter disgrace and participants at a leadership level deserve a measure of their own ugly punishment of the nation, once they're no longer in protected positions of power. While the economy is sure to improve under more responsible, decidedly more capable leadership, many whose lives have been painfully altered believe Obama's team of sycophants deserve to experience what they've dished out, once the aristocrats are purged from Washington.

With regard to how many of the 100 million may have returned to work, my estimate is somewhere in the 60-65 million range. We already know somewhere between 15 million and the low 20 millions remain on record as unemployed. This Administration has more than doubled the BLS count for weeks the unemployed remain without work, compared against Bush and every prior Presidents' numbers since the metric was added post WWII. What few recognize is that almost three times the number of unemployed have been purged from the ranks of who the BLS counts as unemployed as have been restored to gainful employment under Obama's shrunken economy.

After reasoning out an answer in response to your question, perhaps it's possible to be just in the 50 millions for who's returned to work. Of course, with the 30 million newcomers ready for jobs, high teens to low 20 million fully counted unemployed remaining from the 100 million registered with employment offices nationwide, along with an inarguable 4.7 million jobs down, the toughest remaining category to figure into the equation here is how many have retired and left the workforce willingly during the same period. Many of us look forward to seeing your data covering that group and support for the claim that more than 200,000 jobs are needed monthly to incorporate ready new workers into the economy.

Thanks for the heads-up on next week's 100 million count of Americans having registered claims for unemployment under Obama. That's a stunning, eye-opening figure more of the nation should be aware of.

My guess would be on Wednesday the 15th. Most layoffs occur on paydays and for many people their paydays are the 1st and 15th..

I am pretty sure that you are well aware that the BLS has changed their method of calculating unemployment and while I don't necessarily think this is some conspiracy it does seem odd to change it in the middle of a recession. The last change in counting methodology came in 1994 which was during a hiring boom.

I doubt that even if the changes had not been made that the news would have been more dismal that what it already shows.

I have also noticed that Reality has a Liberal Bias calls the official stats BS while at the same time posting stats to Barrack Obama's own website. Oh I am positive that no one would throw up false information on his website. .

I wonder how many people really understand what your data is showing? It does not show that there are nearly 100 million unemployed so it is not in conflict with the website shown on barackobama.com.

All the data that you are showing is that since January 2009 there has been close to 100 million people that had filed a first time claim for unemployment benefits. Some of these people have re-entered the work force and some more than once.

Obama benefits from those that have worked, laid off a second time and then found another job. He counts that person twice in his new jobs created.

The real truth is that damn few new jobs have been created. The US workforce is about 140 million

and since the current rate is only 0.2% lower now than when he entered office then it is easy to see that there has only been a total of 280,000 jobs that exist now that did not exist when he became the president.

What is really telling about unemployment and the Obama years is the steady fall in the participation rate. This rate has fell from 65.7% to 63.2% meaning that there are fewer people that are even looking for work. This is 3.5 million people that have given up looking for a job.

If we added that 2.5% to the unemployment rate you would still see that we have 9.1% unemployment.

Actually the first president to violate the War Powers Act of 1975 was Bill Clinton, he failed to get congressional approval before sending troops into Kosovo.

Last time I checked, Congress was responsible for the government's purse strings and laws. Perhaps if the House Republicans got their heads out of their rears, something might be done to fix the problem.

"Oh how racist". Probably next, but look at the CBO they made a small mistake on Obama care and later corrected it. They were only off by $500 billion. But remember that lady got on the tube and threatened the head of it by saying he didn't have enough women working for him. He came back and said that most women don't go for a phd in that field, which was true. Obviously a direct attack on them so expect .different figures coming out of there

Although I believe Obama got the message and appoints us an rice to the United nations. You may remember Ms. Rice she was the mouth piece for the administration and instrumental for r2p and invading Libya, a Sunni moderate friendly compliant nation. As we now know Ms. Rice was mistaken hollering about how horrible Qaddafi was and had to either leave or die.

According to our own state Department Libya HAD NO HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS (see report ink), where as she must have gotten confused because at that time it was actually SYRIA MURDERING 5,000 AT THAT TIME. State Department states that Syria has murdered up to 17,000 of their own people back in the 80s and now while Rice and Obama have been destabilizing tow moderate sunni run governments they have allowed Syria to do horrible things and now 67,000 are deal. This latest saber rattling by the administration may be signal that the Shite minority run regime in Syria's effectively killed all opposition.

I wondered why Obama and rice where so upset when four were killed in Egypt by security forces and they made the president step down an ally and now Egypt will probably become another radical state like Iran and hmmm I remember Carter doing the same thing. but this Rice may end up as bad a Jamie Gorelick who created the housing market crash, 911 and Waco.

I mean the people of Libya had free education, housing, gas, etc and law and order. Since Qaddafi took over in 1969 there had not been an attack on any foreign entity in Libya so yes by evading Libya Obama is to fault. I mean how can you make such a bad mistake when on country is killing at will and the other is giving free everything to the people?
