Never hearing back from an interviewer after your job interview is "the new norm". With the economy taking away jobs in the Human Resources department, the courtesy of the past, letting the applicant know where they are in the hiring process, is a thing of the past.
The Human Resources department use to send you an update via mail or phone call if you were disqualified after the first interview. Now with the economy being so bad there is only one or two people in charge of the hiring process for over 200, 300, maybe 400 applicants vying for one job opportunity. The Human Resources department, understaffed as it is, does not have the time or budget to notify everyone who was eliminated for consideration. There are times now when you will apply for a job and you will not hear one word from Human Resources about the hiring process. You contact them inquiring about the job opportunity and they will tell you that the job has been filled. All Human Resources department do not follow "the new norm", but they are in the minority now. You can call and a human being will answer the phone and fill you in on where they are in the hiring process. This does not happen as often as it use to in the past.
You can call and inquire but just make sure you do not nag them or seem hard-up in wanting to know where you stand in the hiring process. This will cast a negative light on your candidacy for the job opportunity. Good luck!
