Why am I getting blue screen?

I've been tethering through usb since Jan with no problems untill yesterday when I suddenly got a blue screen windows shut down and restart msg, it then tried to restart but the same thing happened so I unplugged my phone, it then restarted but did some sort of scan and needed 13 windows updates which I did with my orange dongle. Now I can tether using my phones hotspot but as soon as I try to use the usb even to just charge the same thing happens. Any ideas anyone?
