Recruiters contacting you about YOUR job?

Have you ever heard of a company contacting recruiters and giving them your details to ask you about your job before they fire you?

My husband has had two recruiters call him with a job opportunity that sounds very similar to what he does not. He works for one of the big four banks and to me it sounds as though he is being paranoid but do companies do this?

He is a full time employee and has had no written warnings and is a high performer.

He spoke out in a meeting the other day and has "rocked the boat" and his manager is angry at him, but in no way has he done anything which he could be fired for (unless you can be fired for having an opinion?)

Because he has had two recruiters call him, I really doubt his current company is checking on him. It sounds like a similar position is open at another bank, and there is an open job posting that the recruiters are trying to fill. It's the kind of thing where the new bank would pay a commission to get the job filled, and let it be known to the recruiters. What you haven't said is if the recruiters are in-house (meaning work for the competing bank), or independent. I am going with the idea that they are independent. And as a large bank, there are procedures that must be followed prior to firing him. Written warnings are one of those procedures. I would say it's just a coincidence as to the timing.

just because you had a "dream resume" doesn't mean you were the most qualified person for the job - I have come out of lots of interviews in my life feeling they went well and didn't get the job they are going to interview 3-4 people for any job opening someone else must have had some other talent/experience or had a better interview or something that made them just a bit better a choice than you - they probably did not give the recruiter any reasons for their decision
