Christians: why did there have to be a sacrifice, anyways?

I'm trying to understand the story that Christianity is based around, but I don't really get the whole sacrifice thing. Why did God need a sacrifice? And why did he sacrifice himself to himself? What is the point of a sacrifice to a God who is omnipotent, can't he make whatever he wants?

Update:

I am still confused about this concept. I don't really feel these answers are quite getting at it.

I am familiar with John 3:16 however it does not explain why God needed to sacrifice something in order to give humans eternal life. Couldn't he have just given humans eternal life without the sacrifice?

He also could have created humans without "impurity", if he simply wants humans not to sin/not be impure/get into heaven. If God was the one who demanded sacrifices in the first place, why would he need to sacrifice himself to stop the practice of sacrifice? The only reason humans need to be "saved" is because God decided not to "save" all of his creations in the first place, why did he decide he needed to sacrifice in order to save his own creation?

Jesus turned death into a sinner? God decided to make all humans sin. Couldn't he just decide to not make humans sin? Or not appoint them to death for it? Why did he need to create a sinless human

God is a holy God and will not at all acquit the wicked. Thus He needed a sacrifice to maintain His severity towards sin and yet at the same time display His love and mercy. Mercy rejoices against judgement. So it was a twofold purpose at least for the sacrifice.

Also perhaps you have not considered the implications. There are these enemies of mankind that mankind could not conquer on it's own. These enemies were nothing for God to worry about because they had no power of Him. They had power of us. One of these enemies is death. And through dying Jesus conquered this enemy in human form for all humans who trust in Him.

Before this time DEATH had no sin, because it had never taken a soul that had not been appointed to death because of sin. JESUS IS THE FIRST who has ever died that was innocent and not worthy of death. Thus, Jesus turned death into a sinner. Now that death has sinned against an innocent soul it is worthy to be judged by God and death will be put to death through Jesus Christ. Amen.

Because it's the only way to atone for sin. Adam and Eve's fall resulted in animals being killed to literally cover their shame (nakedness) with skins. Their shame came through the knowledge that what they had done was evil. Hence the Tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Without specifically stating it, this was the first death in the Bible that covered sin. We know that because their kids Cain and Abel picked up on this and offered sacrifices to God as a means of atoning for their sins and thus sacrifice was introduced.

The answer only makes sense if you know God like Adam, Eve, Cain and Abel knew him and understand that he's so holy that sin can't exist with him. Something has to die for you to approach God and Jesus was only sacrifice that would once and forever allow people to be holy if they put their faith in him.

My advice is that against the grain of western culture which rejects Christianity by finding something you seem to be able to poke a hole through, you should be grateful that God became your sacrifice.

Because if you're impure, you cannot go to Heaven. You will not be able to stand to be in front of Him. However, if pure blood was shed for your sins, you'd be free and able to go to Heaven. That was why many people sacrificed their best animals. However, after He sent Jesus, no one had to sacrifice that way any more. We are saved.

    John 3:16-17

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him."

The entire bible is based on ancient sun worship. It is an astro-theological literary hybrid. Sacrifice was a common practice of all bronze age religions. Sacrifice was a human created attempt to appease the g-ds to mitigate the likelihood of bad weather or other natural phenomenon seen in that period of time as being caused by angry g-ds.

    Ok first we need foundation

Yes God is love. Although God is also justice Isaiah 30:18.

We are sinners and the wages of sin (justice for sin) is death hell. Romans 3:23 romans 6:23

    God is omnipotent gen 17:1

But all omnipotent means is He has all power, omni all potent power. This does not mean God can do everything u can imagine. God cannot do certain things. Titus 1:2 God cant lie.

This is because meaningless things, oxymorons, intrinic impossiblities, paradoxes, and mutal exclusives are not a matter of lack of power. They are in and of themselves impossible. God is perfect matt 5:48 (Holy means sinless so same thing). A perfect being cant lie its a mutual exclusive. U can be perfect and be imperfect at the same time. God cant make a rock to heavy for Him to lift, for He has all power nothing is to heavy ever, thats a meaningless question fallacy. God cant make a sq circle.

    Ok so thats the foundation

Now God being Just can Not just brush our sin under a rug and forget them forever. The justice for it must be poured out. Someone must pay.

    Animal sacrifices:

Wages of sin is death. Life is in the blood, so spilling blood sated justice (lev 17:11). He doesnt want to kill us, He loves adores us. So something one else must pay for our sin. A creature can only pay for its own sins. So animals are not suitable to erase our sins, this is why jews have to continually offer sacrifices (for time sake im leaving out some bible address ask if u want them). Animals by Gods mercy can cover our sins, hide them temporary, but eventually they wouldnt be good enuff. God forbeared our sin for a time if we offered animal blood. Bible says God doesnt delight in animal sacrifices. It was the attempt of ppl to recognize their sin and want to be right with Him that pleased Him. The only way to try to get right back then was blood, offering ur own defeats Gods want or u to live. So animals died

    Jesus.

1 thing first Jesus didnt offer Himself to Himself. God is 1 single being consisting of 3 individual persons. Jesus offered Himself to the Father, as our scapegoat.

    Now

Jesus being human can pay for human sin. Jesus being sinless had no need to die. No sin no death. So when He died it was like a blank check written out to the debt of Just. Since He had no sin, All sin can be placed on Him. For thats how valuable a innocent mans death is. Jesus on earth was Fully God Fully human. Anyone who comes to Him and follows Him and His ways, He pays for there sin, therefore we are saved. God is Love, paid for us Himself. Jesus death is a blank check. God is justice, made sure all sin was punished.

If u refuse to come to Jesus, ur debt isnt paid and u must pay it urself, so hell.

    @ADDITIONAL DETAILS

Read Genesis chapters 1/2 we were made completely perfect with free will. No free will no love ability, we were made for the purpose of love. We in that free will sinned therefore corrupting ourselves. Flesh begets flesh, spirit spirit, hate hate, love love, perfection perfection, so corrupt begets corrupt.

No u cant have free will without having ability to chose sin. To have free will by definition is to have a will unhindered. To have it u must have ability to and opportunity (that single tree out of ALL THE TREES on the planet) to go against the parent will.

The rest of this im sure u know the answer from my previous parts.

God didnt cause us to need salvation. Nope God did not actually could not make sinners. Perfection cant cause imperfection.
