  • Is religion just an escape from fear?

Further- is the practice of non-religion just an attempt to escape from the fear of being trapped within an idealogical prison and if so, isn't it a form of prison also?

Whether religious or not it appears that everyone attempts to escape the fear of, among other lesser things, annihilation?

DISCLAIMER_ I am not religious in the modern American sense of the word nor am I an atheist. I am undefinable by those silly notions as are all human beings. This question is for those who really want to examine something in this topic area. If you prefer to poke fun or brutality towards me, the asker. I will do it for you to save you from wasting the bandwidth and mental energy. Yes I am dumb and stupid and useless. I ask really stupid questions. I am a crazy Christian and a godless atheist and a stupid question asker. Now that I have already insulted myself maybe this will expedite the flow for the good answers for which this question was tendered.

  • Are human beings intelligent?

the organism that comprises the human being is intelligent. It is intelligent in its silence and perfection. What exactly have we gained/lost from being conscious?

I come here just to see if there is any flicker of intelligence anywhere remaining on the web and I think I am beginning to realize why the rocks, trees and flowers hold their words as the pointlessness of consciousness in humanity is continually revealed.

    what say you?

  • what brings non-spiritual people to a spiritual forum really?

i am not interested in name calling or chest pounding or the phrases " i am right" and "you are wrong" Now it would be good to answer the question without examining the position from which it is asked. I think that we dance around the real issues most times and never look at the actual fact that brings spiritual people into a war with non-spiritual people? What do you seek if you claim to be non-spiritual and come here with aggression? Is it conflict or perhaps a bizarre form of consolation that you seek? For the spiritual person- why argue and fight verbally (rather sub-textually) with which you will never find a point of agreement? Does the spiritual person get pleasure from the thought that a non-believer that goes to hell? Is that an enjoyable thought for the believer? and if it why? is that not a violent brutish way of thinking? which exposes the true nature within? Conversely- does the non-spirirtual person get pleasure from the rehashing the fact that they appear to be free from the bondage of a series of ancient ideals and dogmas. and if so, why isn't the freedom itself good enough- what do they seek in their repeated and hostile inquiries on this forum?

  • Is the income and wealth properly distributed between rich, middle class and poor?

On the link below is a video that has gone viral internationally with more than 11 million views on youtube alone.

    http://welcometothelight.org/110313-01.html#.Unacu...

So after watching the video do you agree with the facts from this Harvard study? If so what should we do to educate the populace?

If you think that the problem with our economy is too many poor people mooching (the whole 47% thing) then what can be done to correct that problem?

Other nations that are wealthy like ours create artificial floors to ensure that people don't fall through the cracks and end up desperate and with nothing- Do you think we should do that too because we don't anymore and if not how do you prevent acts of desperation such as theft, drugs and murder in poor and middle class areas?

ALL the income and wealth created during the "recovery" has gone to the upper 1% only, based on that fact and that fact alone do you see why most of us FEEL like there has been no real recovery. Money spending yes but recovery no?

  • Can we fix the American economy by simply taxing high income earners?

Here is a link to a short essay on money http://welcometothelight.org/103013-01.html#.UnDzT...

    Here is a brief excerpt:

...Do not think of money as something you own or anyone owns. All of our money is created literally out of thin air by the government through the process of generating promissory notes called treasury bills that are given in exchange for the paper money that we call legal tender being freshly inked from the privately owned federal reserve bank . Money is the device by which we measure value in our economy. Money is not value just as a tape measure is not the thing being measured but the measuring device. Now, I understand this may be problematic to comprehend but let us just take a moment and consider these facts intensely together. Money is our measurement device for value. Work that is considered more valuable is measured higher or essentially paid more than work that valued less. It seems prudent that a surgeon makes a higher salary than a janitor or fast food worker. When a doctor is compensated 20 times the average minimum wage worker that doesn’t appear to create a big problem. However, should a brain surgeon or medical scientist that heals the body of cancer be compensated 3000 times less than a billionaire CEO that simply keeps an insurance company profitable for a period of time?...

Do you think that a CEO should be compensated 3000 times more than a brain surgeon?

    If so, why?

Do you think the average person understands money? If not, what can we do together to teach them about money?

In America we spend a semester in economics class in senior or junior year, I think economics should be taught cumulatively from kindergarten through twelfth grade so that every child has a good understanding of the economy and our collective rolls together before they graduate- do you agree?

Do you understand that very high income earners have the potential to take too much currency out of the money supply and that the only way to balance that is to regulate greed and excess with a progressive tax program and appropriate enforcement of those tax laws?

  • Are you looking for some genuinely organic, new age, spiritual music with Christian overtones?

    Try out these links:

If you are a Christian, does this music offend you or make you feel more connected to your diety? If you are not can you get past the overtones to connect with cosmic awareness?

  • What does the phrase "know yourself" truly mean to you?

for the religious mind, Is it wrong or right or beyond those distinctions to know yourself? How does one know when one knows oneself for esoteric and deep thinker? Does the non-theist have an angle to this question that adds to its meaning by refusing to allow transcendental ideas? what comment does the youthful smart alec have to say that will enlighten us all on this journey we all take

  • what are you seeking?

this is open to all- what are we seeking? Is it A new religion for the fervent spiritual zealot that will affirm reality in a way that adds to your life. Maybe the scientific materialist seeking to make sense of the clues of consciousness hidden within the equations of the quantum theory. Others may be fine to say that they are not seeking anything and that is alright too. If you are seeking- what is it you hope to find or acquire?

  • What does it mean to truly be awakened?

this will be different for just about every human being. It has nothing to do with religious faith or lack of faith. It is much deeper than that. Some may not assign this idea to religion or non-religion at all and may simply say it is when I am not asleep. Are those who believe it is an internal metaphysical movement, or perhaps a movement of rational thought in the brain for some, perhaps it is a deep quiet and awareness found in joy of being.

  • Does fear of death lead us to adopt a faith or reject faith?

How do you deal with the problem of fearing death with adhering to faith or rejecting it? Did it help completely whatever path you chose or do you still battle with fear of death sometimes?

  • What does the phrase: "I am the way, the truth, and the life" mean to you?

first- there are no right or wrong answers to this question as it will likely mean something different to every person and the spectrum will vary from those who claim patterns and traditions of faith and those who claim patterns and traditions of logic and reason. Try to determine just what it means to you and not what it might mean to someone else.

  • How does the idea of being wrong make you feel?

Whether religious or a skeptical, think for a moment about the potential for your point of view being wrong. Does that idea cause you physical pain to think along such ideas? What is it about the human experience that we always seek to be right at the expense of others being wrong? Why do we feel better when our ideas are supported and weakened when our ideas are attacked? This question is not an attack on either side of the theist atheist illusory war on answers. Rather it is a very personal look into the makeup of human thought processes.

  • What does the word awakening mean to you?

Is it something of a spiritual experience or one that is founded more on logic or reason?

Does it promote peacefulness within you or generate even more questions?
