Does sugar make kids hyper?
This guy that watches my children tells me that sugar is making my kids hyper. When they have something sweet they don't behave good. I read several articles that maybe indicating no that that is a myth.
Is it a myth that sugar makes kids hyper or is there truth to it?

Different children have different metabolisms. Some react badly to food colourings, some react badly to dairy products, some react badly to sugar. I know of one little girl who gets completely out of control if she's had more than a tiny amount of sugar... I have observed her, and it's like a switch in her brain within about half an hour of too much sugar. A good indication of a child who will react this way is a child who wants a lot of sweet things.
Sugar isn't good for children anyway, so the best thing is to cut it out for a couple of months and see what happens. If you try keeping a food diary, you could observe your children's behaviour over that period, making a note of everything they eat, and see if you can spot a correlation if/when you do give them food with sugar in. In the meantime, ensure that they have absolutely no sugar before they go to the guy that watches them.

He's suffering from confirmation bias. He thinks that sugar will make them hyper, so when they take sugar, he gets the impression they're hyper. But double blind trials show that parents can't reliably tell the difference between children who had consumed sugar and children who had consumed a placebo.

Kids are hper no matter what. They have lots of energy. As a 17yo mom i'd say my child has way more energy than me.He doesn't even like sweets and he's 2!!! it's just they have a lot more to explore and needs more energy than us to do it. they'll slow down as they get older. As for the bad behavior thing, they are kids.we push the limits to see what we can get away with. it's normal. we also act different around people who aren't our parents. so, i say myth.
