Believe in God but avoid church services?
This is a question for those of you who believe in a higher power but don't regularly attend church services/mass.
Why do you stay away? Please explain.
Background: I am meeting with my pastor next week. My church, like most, is experiencing dropping numbers. It is a theologically "progressive" church that has many members, but the percentage of those members who attend church regularly is fairly small.
Even I do not attend church more that twice a month. And I have my reasons. What are yours?

Each person has their reason for not being able to attend every Sunday and really there is no where in the Bible where we are told to attend any service weekly. During the time of Jesus, many attended the Tabernacle daily and many people had Bible studies in the homes frequently. The set frequency isn't the thing that makes us a better Christian. God is with us wherever we go when we have a loving relationship with Him. He is the Holy Spirit that lives within us. We also have the ability to pray and study God's Word anytime and I feel we should study it daily.

Alot of people are turning away from God, I believe and many others the end is near and God says many will take the easy path few will take the narrow. And possibly because your church might have a religious spirit. Meaning there's oppression and some church people think they are better than everyone else. Wrong! Us Christians are no better but are just set free by the blood :) and alot od churches are not lead by the Holy Spirit and if your not than most likely your church is spiritualy dead. Ill pray about your church. God bless

I feel as people don't really care about church that much anymore. Atheism is the fastest growing "religion" and it will soon dominate the rest of the world. If you do believe in god then go right ahead. You don't have to go to church and give them your money. That's what they want...your money not you. Just sit at home and read passages from the bible. You don't need a pastor for that. Don't feel like you have to be subjected to going to church. You can still be a good Christian, or whatever the religion you're affiliated with, and still "go to heaven"

I don't attend a church at all, they are unfruitful. I attend a home bible study fellowship where I am enriched by the word. Churches fail because they aren't fully practicing the word of God. The home fellowship ministry I attend started with three-four people 50 years ago and is now a international ministry. All because we practice the word in fullness and teach it rightly to the people.

There are thousands of gods. Most of them do not require attendance at churches as most of them are not Christian. The Christian gods vary in their requirements, some are very strict while others are more free and easy. There are thousands of Christian religions worshipping their various gods, pick one that suits your lifestyle better.

Well the answer is quite simple my friend. As we/Christians progress we become more aware. and the notion of "God loves us" is essentially ebbing away. This does NOT in fact mean that an "ethereal hostility" is prevalent. but more aptly put, people in general, are "waking up". More not unlike an apathy but not ignorance. A step up the prolific ladder and not insensitivity. People are "getting real" if you catch my drift. I'll explain. I'll try..
This could arise from one or more of several reasons, or all of them. But everything I could think of arises from progressively learning/awareness and the "progression" itself. In the LATTER, it signifies the increase of "time" where such a premise harbours the revelation of a very non-ethereal future (the tip/pinnacle of every such length of time). For example, Christians (for that matter) are now exponentially intelligent when it comes to Reality when viewed as a function of current affairs. (the popular Evil and/or Good are running amok, with no regard to each other; as such the Human mind has become more tolerant to the paradigm "what you sow is what you reap" or "when you screw up you can at times get away with the right resources". either no one believes in a Saviour anymore. or if they did, they know that there are better more important things to take care of than attend Church (because by the end of the day, they have to NOT screw up anyway as that is the key determinant to their happiness and not punctuality to prayer).
The importance of Prayer (or Church) is not a thing of the past and least forgotten. It is just that Christians feel more responsible now where this attributes thier loyalty to Religion/Prayer, through loyalty to their mortal duties. In an alterante explanation, they are more aware now than not, that they are in the midst of Stone and Water, and NOT God and Clouds so to speak.
Now in the FORMER, as people/Christians-in-general-(to address your question) learn and/or as the general global/Christian consciousness matures over the said time (progress) they are more in touch with the possibilities of intelligent-design. Now I don't mean to present controversies here but new ideas are like viruses. The information explosion they harness are of immense proportions and the possibilities that develop therein (that complement theories and/or radical ideas) are at times difficult to ignore (let alone reject).
This brings forth the question to everyones minds (well many): Who are we? Why are we here? What are we doing? Are we doing the right thing? Are we wasting our time? Has God turned away? Or is it watching? Why were we (allegedly) punished in the past but dont seem to now?
I think I'm ready now to say what's in my mind really; as I've now constructed the premise to lay it down:
In a lay/less informed perspective - "If something in fact instigated all creation why is there no sign of it? Has it turned away or is it still watching? Did it judge in the past? Is it judging now? Has it given up/turned away?" Will my going to Church regularly really keep me from trouble/suffering.
In a more proficient/prolific perspective: What is the ral deal? What has happened to Darwin now in the wake of the re-advent of Creationism? Where does intelligent design fit in now? Why should a God that judges us based on our punctuality to Church be any different from a God that loves/blesses us in any case? Why would my scene not be any better if I did my duties right, was kind to everything and everyone around me and made everyone happy? Where does "Going to Church" fit in to my agenda of duties and righteousness? Why wont this "God" show me a direct sign that puts me in the right gear/track?
I lay down my case mate. This subject is endless. What I have stated could essentially train your line of thought to a possible explanation (rather than solution) to the problem you have presented. As such, I just have to stress again that my response is very subjective to your question. But it is not the least. The philosophy is much larger but I have more appropriately attempted to present it in abstract.
Conclusively, I don't bother with (or bother any such) God and haven't even thought about stepping into a Church all my adult life.. I was/am/will be consumed with Academia/Scholarship and am more bent on leveling up with the "God in me" than actually feel subordinated/inferior and (hero) worship the notion. How dumb. peace to the guys and kisses to the rest. Planet Earth rocks..

god isnt real
regardless of what you think about that, dont support church. even your presence alone supports it, not just the donation basket.
what i mean by that is that the money could be MUCH better spent in another way. for a simplisitic answer, you could take it and donate it to a cancer hospital

if god exists id like to think he's not the biblical or islamic god who sounds quite vengeful and scary so no church for me.
