Feedin' Time 4 P:M C/C?

They drop from the trees

like snipers shot -

just seconds ago camouflaged

by leaf and shadow.

They wait,

They watch,

till I come with sustinence.

The battle begins!

Blue Jays first

Squirrels second.

Blue Jay pilots zero in,

peck at squirrels' heads

and fly off with stolen booty.

Cardinals come in crimson

their dull brown wives eat first.

Titmice mind their own business

and just peck around the outskirts.

Those doves,of course ,

keep their distance

biding their time

sauntering around unfettered

until the melee is over.

One crow squawks,and the rest

of the murder follows

to dip the bread bits in birdbath soup

their favored entrée.

A red tailed hawk hovers above,

the Red Baron of the skies

and all disappear again.

Gemini, This is a very good poem. You've been spending a lot of time looking out the window at natures neighborhood.Really great observation and description. You're going to think I'm a buzzard for bringing this up-- shhhhhhh, but I observed a typo on (hint)-- line 7. My favorite line is "to dip the bread bits in birdbath soup"(One time I think I woke up from a night out on the town with my head in one of those), but I digress. Keep Writing--------william

You certainly are a pretty fair watcher of birds and their feeding habits. And your hawk is right on time...something learned over days, or weeks? Is the hawk zoning in because he is that hungry, or stoops to conquer a waiting, on him, dinner? Easy and quick?

I wish my blue jays would go away. They make it impossible for the smaller birds---the ones I WISH to feed. I'm lucky that I rarely see a crow by my feeder. I think they hang out in nearby cornfields.

You must live in the Northeast, eh?

    Good poem.

You bring me birds, hundreds of them, different species at feeding time. A frenzy of activity and sounds. You painted a very vivid picture with your words. Great job done here.

I would love to say something about your poem, but apparently if I sneeze it is a remark about Caz.

So I will enjoy your poem and dismiss my fellow paranoids.

So visual I was right there with you! Nicely done.

One of my cats pokes my arm with her paw like "Hey, you!" One cat waits patiently and Pupper sits and stares at me. She also sits and stares when it's potty time so I have to guess. I hate it when I get it wrong.
