B&A - Writers: What is your characters' top ten rules?

Hey there, B&A. I was flicking through the internet and found a page on characters and the rules they live by.

So, my question is: If your character could compose ten rules that they (and maybe everyone else, I'll let you decide) had to live by, what would they be?

Thanks for answering, looking forward to your answers. Hopefully there will be some wacky ones. Have fun.

Aww this is fun. ^^ I'll do my male main character's rules. Let's see what he tells me. Oh, and before I forget ('cause I know I will), his favorite color is red.

    1) Always lie about your virginity.

    2) Eat. You don't know when you'll drop dead, so eat all the good food you can. Plus eating keeps you alive in the first place, so...

    3) Interrogate anyone who has do to with something out of the ordinary.

    4) Don't fall in love. Your fiancé will get knocked up by your best friend. -_-

    5) If you do fall in love, fall in love with someone who hates people. It'll be a challenge getting some mutual feelings out of her, but then she'll be less likely to get knocked up by your best friend because she hates people.

    6) If you catch her making out with someone else, kick the guy in the head. That solves everything.

    7) Stay out of the affairs of supernatural creatures, unless your love interest is one. In which case you're screwed, like me.

    8) If there is a mysterious guy following you, chances are he's trying to drag you into a supernatural conspiracy. RUN AWAY FROM THE MAN DO NOT LET HIM CATCH YOU AND DO NOT TAKE ANY STRANGE ITEMS FROM HIM.

    9) Just be nice to people.

    10) Last, but certainly not least (in fact this is the most important one), tell the people you love how much they mean to you every day. You never know when you'll see them again.

  • This looks like a fun question :P

Here's a top ten for an antagonist who's trying to change, in no order:

    1. Don't start fights.

    2. Talk about stressors.

    3. Don't blame anyone, not even yourself.

    4. If you're not sure about something, ask Clemens (another character).

    5. Do what you can to get out alive.

    6. Trust those who've earned your trust.

    7. Be truthful or deceitful, but never lie.

    8. If things don't matter anymore, become numb to everything so you don't realize how you really feel.

    9. Work for what you need to have.

    10. Work on learning about what you actually need.

I feel like he's two different people sometimes xD

    BQ - What's your character's favourite colour?

--Yellow. I think he's my only character with a favorite color XD His friend gave him a yellow shirt because he didn't have many shirts once and he's liked yellow ever since.

The best character I've ever created I'd Tara McLean, she doesn't really have a set of rules or anything like, I mean, she has to be nice, cause I can't stand assholes, but other than that it's just the simple rules that most humans live by, which aren't written out, she just tries not to lose it in the middle of a third world war while trying to keep her friends from killing each other...oh, and her favorite color is probably black

Hm...interesting question. Let me think. My character's kind of a Hamlet as far as angsting over the right/wrong thing to do...especially when he becomes involved in politics, he has to be careful about what he says or does, because it could negatively affect a large amount of people.

    1) Never do anything without thinking. <-- Expanding: Be aware of all potentional outcomes of your actions; prepare to confront them.

    2) Don't use a foreign language to mock/exclude another. Especially a fellow diplomat.

    3) Occasionally men are expendable...but never kill or allow another to be killed in vain.

    4) No, erm, unprotected nights with women. No marriage or children, because that would make things complicated.

    5) Never mind people who hate you for doing the right thing. They don't know any better. Ignore people who spread rumors. They don't know any better either.

And my least favorite...6)...You are NOT expendable. <-- Expanding: The future of a nation is dependent on your life, in which case it is necessary to kill in preservation of your life and your mission.

You can imagine...my character develops a detached, self-righteous personality. I guess that's the trouble when one person sets out to change the world. You have to believe firmly that you know better than everyone else, that you are capable of favoring no man, woman, or child over another.

BQ: Almost forgot this. Honestly, I've never thought of this before. I think blue, because statistically it is one of the most common favorite colors, it's my favorite color, and with my character growing up in a region where the earth and sea are almost always frozen, blue would be the color of the ocean when the ice broke up and when whalers like his father took to the waters.

  • My character has a very difficult personality. He has some brother issues and so most of the rules would probably center around his brother.

    1. Don't show weakness. (In front of his brother)

    2. Don't let him touch my cat. (The cat was given to him alone, so he's pretty possessive with it)

    3. If you're going to lose your temper, follow through with your fists.

    4. Don't lose to that idiot. (Idiot being his brother)

    5. Stand up for yourself.

My character's favourite color is blue, because it reminds him of the ocean. Which, to him, represents freedom.
