OK...let's give this a go:
- 1. Why are channels crucial to a wireless microphone?
Think of a wireless mic (or any other wireless device for that matter) as a small radio station. It's "broadcasting" you. Each device that you operate on stage has to have it's own channel. If you have two or more devices on the same channel, they don't work right. You'll hear squeals and other noise (if you hear anything at all). The more wireless devices you have on stage, the more channels you need. And that also includes wireless In-ear monitor systems.
2. I've seen some microphones that can have more than one channel, but others only work on one. How do I know which one will work?
- I'm always an advocate of getting devices that can work on more than one channel (the technical term is "frequency agile"). Even if you just have one wireless on stage, sometimes you get into a venue that has something funky going on at a certain frequency, or there's some kind of commercial broadcast transmitter nearby. If you travel with your wireless, you need to be able to switch things around sometimes. You pay more for that frequency agility.
3. What is this thing I've seen about some wireless microphones not able to be used if the run on a certain frequency? How do I know which microphone can't be used?
- In June of 2010, the FCC re-allocated what was known as the 700 MHz band away from private use. So technically, if you own a piece of wireless gear that operates between 698 MHz to 806 MHz, you're supposed to stop using it. You can't buy new gear that operates in that band anymore.
Will you get arrested or fined if you operate equipment in that band? Highly unlikely. But, other services are now using those frequencies, so if you get interferred with you don't have a lot of recourse.
4. Also, any suggestions for a good quality wireless microphone? Please stay under $150!
- Under $150? There aren't many wired microphones I would recommend under that price! With wireless you really get what you pay for. Sure, there are Nady, Galaxy, and Digital Reference units in that price range. But, every one of those I've ever heard were noisey, distorted, and would drop out easily. All things you don't want to happen in front of an audience.
Save your money up...you really need to be looking in the $400 and up range. At that point, you should be looking at Shure or Audio Technica.
If you're absolutely bent on getting a wireless mic, The Audio-Technica ATW-702 will set you back $200. It's got mixed reviews, and is absolutely the bottom line I would recommend on a budget. But I consider it still a toy and not a professional piece of equipment.
Good luck.

specific, yet you will desire 2 routers too. utility setup ought to spectacular be complicated, simply by fact Belkin probably did not anticipate this setup. each and each and each router/ receiver desires to be on a distinctive channel. comprehend that this in basic terms works if the value for the internet is faster than the instant community. Intranet speeds (between laptop on a similar community) ought to make stronger.
