Nonviolent anime/manga with great heroism...?
I'm a little tired of heroes who resolve everything with a fight.
I would love to see a series with the kind of character who displays great heroism without fighting.
I'm looking for qualities like quiet bravery in the face of threats, loyally standing for his friends when there is nothing to be gained, keeping his promises even when it costs him... that sort of thing.
And nothing political... no pseudo-'civil rights' or bullies pretending that they are the ones being bullied.

I'm questioning myself why the heck "Yakitate Ja-pan" popped into my mind, but heck, he doesn't fight impossible orders, he bakes them, so there :-p
If not restricting to manga with official NA release,
Dogesen: peculiar tale of a man who resolves majority of conflicts with dogeza, bowing down all the way to ground while on his knee, considered ultimate humbling apology.
Tale of Grand Rover: One of the first titles written by the artist of Key to the Kingdom. Syam, a petty con artist, who ends up teaming up with the wisest man of all, find himself deep into the struggle for survival by fairies and spirits of nature versus humans. Let's just say, his choice of action was not to fight or to surrender but another means. Hope you can find good translation for it. It's been almost ten years since release, but it still remains my favorite fantasy manga
